Today, we visited the impressive Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum north/east of Kaohsiung. It has 8 pagodas, a reclining Buddha statue of white jade, a Buddha tooth relic, and a 40 m tall metal Buddha statue.

This is a manuscript of the Avatamsaka Sutra in Tangut language! It was discovered in 1908 by Pyotr Kuzmich Kozlov (1863-1935), a Russian and Soviet traveler and explorer.

Once upon a time, there was a prince named Siddhartha. Having given up on luxury, he embarked on a journey to seek enlightenment and taught the Dharma for 49 years before entering parinirvana. He is remembered by a tooth relic now housed at the Buddha Museum.
