It’s got everything to do with tactics and judging situational awareness.

Why are they playing out from the back? To what end? What happens second phase?

Ball to wingback or into centre mid?

The dithering and poor choices are indicative of indecision and a misunderstanding of what they are supposed to be doing.

It’s all on tactics. If players know what they are supposed to do, they don’t make mistakes like that.

C’mon now.

I grew up watching Scotland in Berti Vogts era.

Now we have two of the best midfielders in Serie A, a Europa League winner, a Liverpool captain in the ranks.

I think the talk about us not being good enough is pretty cringe.

Ecuador don’t have every player playing Europe for example.

No small country has first 11 that’s all top level.

We have more than enough to get out of the group.

The mentality and tactics are the problem. Not the technical ability of players.

At least that’s my view.

The issue for me is fear.

We approached every game afraid.

Unwilling to take risks going forward in fear of conceding.

It’s like at the beginning of the tournament we decided 3 points and an acceptable GD would be the target to go through.

As such:

Afraid of screwing up against a so called minnow in Haiti. Got 1-0 up and took little attacking risk to get a second in fear of conceding.

Afraid of getting ripped by Morocco giving us a poor goal difference.

Afraid of exactly the same happening v Brazil hoping to squeeze through on three points.

The players are good enough. The culture and tactics are poor.
