Google just made the links inside AI Mode and AI Overviews bigger, higher and easier to click. Here are the 5 changes from Oct 15 and what they mean if you want to be the cited source. https://t.co/tJXnLlPhBV
fake Reddit threads for AI visibility are a bad trade.
mods and users spot brand accounts fast, and a thread calling you out for astroturfing is exactly the kind of source AI answers love to quote.
the slower move works better: answer real questions in threads that already exist, say who you are, and be useful even when your product isn't the answer.
@saihaj And for the unbranded searches, the citation usually goes to whoever wrote the comparison, not the brand. So the play is less about your own site and more about getting onto the review and "best X for Y" pages AI already trusts for that service.
Google just made links more visible in AI Mode and AI Overviews (announced today):
- more inline links, placed higher in answers
- testing an "official pages" section at the top for tasks only 1-2 official sites handle
- bigger related-article links with thumbnails at the end
- news carousels expanding, highlighting your Preferred Sources
- testing clickable creator names on video results
what it means: being the cited source matters even more now. the link is finally where people can see it.
@itsJaimeMedina The quiet winner here might be brand sites. If agents get pushed off Amazon and go direct like the LEGO example, the stores with clean product pages, clear pricing and a checkout an agent can get through will pick up those orders.
POV: a buyer asks ChatGPT "is [your product] worth it?"
and the answer quotes a 2-year-old review about a bug you fixed long ago.
your changelog knows it's fixed. the internet doesn't.
if a fix matters to buyers, say it somewhere AI can read: release notes, a docs page, a reply on that old thread.
@sengineland Fair distinction. A "too expensive" thread only matters if the answer actually repeats it. Logging the exact wording and cited URL per question shows which objections are worth fixing and which are just noise in the sources.
@AdFlipr Good add on matching the H1 and meta description. A lot of sites fix the hero line and leave the old vague meta, so the snippet still says "smarter growth".
Before: "Unlock the power of smarter growth"
After: "Email marketing tool for Shopify stores"
Only one of these can be repeated by ChatGPT when someone asks for a recommendation.
Put your homepage headline below and I'll write the "after" version.
most AI visibility tracking measures prompts nobody actually types.
"best project management software for teams" looks great on a dashboard. real buyers ask "does X work with Jira if half my team is on Windows".
pull your prompt list from sales calls and support tickets, not from a keyword tool.
how to check if AI search can even read your site, in 5 minutes:
1. open /robots.txt on your domain and look for OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Claude-SearchBot. a Disallow there keeps you out of their search answers.
2. check your CDN or firewall settings. Cloudflare blocks AI crawlers by default on newer sites, and plenty of owners never noticed.
3. right click > View Page Source on a key page. if your main content isn't in the raw HTML, most AI crawlers won't see it, since they don't run JavaScript.
fix those 3 before writing anything new.
@benwills The AI Overviews exception is the most interesting part to me. Unlinked mentions beating links there suggests Google leans more on what the web says about a brand than on the link graph. Did that hold across most industries, or was it driven by a few?
solid list. two I'd move up:
title tags out of D tier. on whatever blue links are left, the title still decides the click. cheapest CTR win on here.
unlinked mentions out of C tier. AI answers pick up who talks about you, link or no link.

@Crackx17_ Point 2 is the one most people skip. Crediting the sale to the page with the buy button makes every comparison post look dead, when it's often what started the purchase. That comparison article doing almost a third of revenue says it all.
@KinetixSEO Good shout. Easiest sanity check is Search Console, since that data comes straight from Google and isn't affected by scraping blocks. If GSC position and clicks look flat while the tracker shows a cliff, it's the tracker.
@ChrisSimpson Worth adding the caveat: Google's guidelines only allow showing the address if customers are actually served there during business hours. A wrap shop where people drop off vehicles fits that. A home office doesn't, and that's how profiles end up suspended.
free way to find the question-style searches you already show up for (the kind AI answers are built on): one regex in Google Search Console.
Performance > + Add filter > Query > Custom (regex):
^(who|what|why|how|when|where|which|can|does|is)\b
sort by impressions.
those questions are the ones to answer in the first 2 lines of the page.
@JespernissenSEO That chart is wild. The drop from 80M to 49M is the part I'd watch though. Spikes like this on a shared domain usually get cleaned up once site reputation abuse enforcement catches up, so I'd treat it as a short window, not a strategy.
