@shagbark_hick Got a bush property in N Ontario (similar climate to NE NY) with both a quite nice propane fridge and a small electric fridge powered off solar, batteries and inverter. After 5 yrs I decommissioned the propane one, it sucked 100 lb propane tanks dry FAST & threw off a lotta heat
@bajadobe I think you’ll be surprised by how hard this is to scale with Baja vegetation. Old school kiln calcination uses like 1-1.5 tons of wood to fire a ton of lime. Around every Roman city in Europe there was mass local deforestation due to lime production, and they had real trees
@chachamin07 For what it’s worth, I have lived in Mexico for most of 4 years, and have never experienced or even heard of an incident of ATM skimming, so I suspect the risk is quite low nowadays.
@IpnRodriguez@BowTiedPassport Lately Oaxaca is overrepresented. There are villages there where more of their people live in Brooklyn and Queens than in Mexico now
@Hustlebtc@BowTiedPassport I live in Mexico but visited Alaska for the first time last summer, I walked around six or eight coastal fish processing plants and EVERYONE was from Sinaloa or Veracruz (I guess where the Mexican industrial fish processors are located)
@El_Polacy@bajadobe@vaguepostulator Other thing, CFE runs a lot of trunks quite hot. Sometimes like 140V per phase. Reasoning is, usual crap household wiring introduces voltage drops, so by the time the power gets to the outlet it’s about what it should be. But your gringo appliances get surprised by these V’s lol
@El_Polacy@bajadobe@vaguepostulator Get one of those cheap plug in outlet testers and probe all your sockets. Many “electricians” miswire outlets in ways that can easily be fixed (swapped neutral and hot, missing ground) https://t.co/FDYsPRXS5D
@bajadobe@El_Polacy@vaguepostulator They also think polarization, ground wires, and neutrals at switch boxes are gringo madness (though it’s all code here just like USA Canada and EU)
@CepnikMaciej They just announced a major downsizing of the Spin financial services unit. Mexican banking is super competitive right now, there are like 6 really great neobanks fighting for my business!
@CepnikMaciej No, their naive strategy was “We have foot traffic already so it will be easy to convert people to retail banking customers!” Instead it’s like me trying to buy a can of Modelo and 5 people in line before of me are doing complicated Spin transactions. Operationally incompatible
@BowTiedPassport Have you checked out the murals by Desiderio Hernández Xochitiotzin in Tlaxcala’s Palacio de Gobierno. They depict exactly what you describe, Tlaxcalans as the main agents of the Conquest, and it is such a jarring inversion of the Mexica-centric history we get in the capital
