@smhumphreys Sounds perfect! Although, I think it is difficult to have that for every class at every university. Using this year as proof, it's hard for instructors to deliver an equal experience across different learning options. I think this SHOULD be the norm; it's just an uphill battle.
@dianethemerman@shoshanazuboff Super interesting! Thanks for sharing! I don't know if I've said this before, but I still love the comparison of Sheryl Sandberg to typhoid Mary, haha.
@JLH01999 @jilltxt I think filters do in a sense abstract from all we can say. But, I agree with @smhumphreys that it is also difficult to define authenticity. By no means am I giving you raw brain waves, so who's to say filtered content is not authentically intended?
@BenJud00 Exactly what I wonder, too. Can't deny there is use in my devices knowing me (although I also wish I saw some of Google's profit for contributing my info). Do you think that by not forfeiting our privacy, our tech would be lackluster? Or would it just require more effort from us?
@teresasammut @Spotify@Google I do not feel comfortable with this (yet, I also want better music recommendations😭). I find appreciating what technology can do and deciding what I am willing to pay harder everyday. Probably will keep Spotify on my laptop and delete it on my phone, wbu? Thanks for sharing!
@dianethemerman That's really interesting! I don't know if you can, both with societal pressures and app limitations (e.g. character restriction on this tweet). I would say you can get close, but you are always filtering a bit. Although, maybe we filter just as often in person too! Thoughts?
@smhumphreys I see, so there's no binary at all really. A group can a public, counterpublic, be both, or fake being the other. And, haha, I appreciate the use of Trump as an example!
@zoesmithengl407 These points deserve way more attention than they are given. The most widespread labour exploitation has happened with web services. Another thing I noticed the other day is how Google has some paid courses to learn how to search better. Be a better unpaid worker, in other words!
@JLH01999 I thought Warner was acting very much like Schrödinger too haha. Also where he is talking about how a public is not realized until after it is created, but a public creates itself. Not sure if he intended to be so whimsical, but I liked it.
@smhumphreys Ahhh, OK. I read it more as that the media had to be in continued circulation because of the history section, not as a back and forth discussion. I think I understand better now, thank you!
@smhumphreys I agree that the context is important, it just felt like it's wasted effort to say the criteria may no longer apply today after building it up to be central. Why is circulation a criteria of publics if Warner is doubtful of its applicability online?
