White business owner here:)

On the issue of employing South Africans VS foreigners, here’s my honest account:

I have run businesses that employed hundreds of people across several industries.

We did our utmost to ensure the legality of any non-South African.

Anyone with fake papers was never hired.

We have had many great South Africans working for us - black and white. Trustworthy amazing people. And of those many black South Africans worked their way up into management, profit share and ownership.

We invested in our people. And that’s a tough thing because people let you down often, but it’s the risk and effort any successful business owner has to factor in.

If found that if someone was willing to learn and be diligent, they would grow.

Stealing was a problem (across all levels in companies) no matter the nationality- but those who didn’t, grew.

There was lots of things going on under the surface between tribes and local and foreigners but we did our best to keep the focus on delivering value to customers so that the business could grow to everyone’s benefit.

The amount of South Africans we employed far exceeded foreigners.

If you treat people with respect you win respect.

To respond to the idea that foreigners work harder than local South Africans… this depends on many things… the type of business, working environment, leadership, company culture.

The only negative I experienced in SOME cases from South Africans was a greater sense of entitlement and demand for much higher pay and position than what they could perform according to. The title was everything and sometimes we made the mistake of promoting such a person but they always became pains to their subordinates and we got rid of them.

We have had some very bad apples both locals and foreigners.

Sure, there are exploitive employers out there.

But if we realize the government has killed the economy we realize also that they are creating a war between employers and employees.

An employee in a thriving economy has options.

A sense of entitlement is never going to make anyone hireable or pleasant to do business with.

People kill other people all the time. More black people die from getting killed by their black comrades than the white people. The white people are not afraid we love Africa and all its people. These people chanting about killing are so few and need to stop wasting their lives running around chanting this and that. Get a job take control of your own life make it better and be constructive. Be happy and enjoy 😉
