The most tragic irony of post-colonial Africa is that, after independence, many African leaders simply replaced white colonialism with black colonialism. The oppressors changed color, but oppression itself never ended.
Instead of liberating their people, many leaders became rulers who exploit, silence, torture, and brutalize their own citizens just to stay in power.
And now, in a painful twist of history, many Africans find themselves turning back to the very Western nations their ancestors fought against hoping those same former colonizers will help free them from the new generation of African oppressors.
That is the heartbreaking reality.
What makes it even more disturbing is that, in many cases, African leaders have shown a level of cruelty toward their own people that feels even more ruthless than what colonial rulers once did. Citizens disappear. Protesters are massacred. Elections are stolen. Entire populations live in fear under governments that were supposed to protect them.
It is absolutely heartbreaking to watch Africans, decades after independence, still fighting for freedom , this time not from foreign rulers, but from their own.
I never thought I or my people would find ourselves begging a western nation to intervene in our country (Tanzania) but here we are.
