Compassion won't fight for itself, so we have to.
In the middle of the radical religious right's "war on empathy,"' we're giving away $100,000 in grants for Americans to help their neighbors.
America needs more empathy, not less, and we're standing on it.
This is fantastic: The @americnhumanist is giving away $100,000 in grants to spread compassion.
They’re calling it the “American Empathy Project.”

Seeing lots of left-center CA discussion and no one's mentioning how Aisha Wahab crushed better-funded moderate candidates to dominate the CA-14 primary with WFP, Our Revolution, Progressive Caucus support.
After New Dem hack Swalwell, that seat is moving well to the left.😁
@JirehGardo@BenShindel I'm pretty sure "objectively the best professors in the world" would prefer to teach at an accredited college, but I'm amazed by your certainty that such a thing could even be objective, which would mean it could be proven - so, please prove it
Two things I particularly enjoy:
1) His utter contempt for Trump and his ilk is palpable, but it’s almost apolitical. It’s moral without being preachy. Tough needle to thread.
2) There is a seriousness here that is woefully missing in our politics today.
Dems haven't moved on policy but they've clearly adopted Sarah McBride-ism - ie, you don't win rights by telling people they're terrible bigots for not using the right language RIGHT NOW.
Personally I am done with the “purity test” crowd on both center & left. Make whatever critiques you want in the primaries. We’re electing Democrats in the general because the alternative is people getting killed. Once there’s a nominee, stop throwing stones unless it’s at MAGA.
We can play the “standards” game. But this would mean that progressive would not vote for the 90% of Democratic candidates who supported the Palestinian genocide.
Centrists need to make a quick decision about if we get to do purity tests or not.
Deep inner suffering inevitably arises when the human person is reduced to performance, consumption, or a statistical datum. Many young people today live under the yoke of expectations to perform, immersed in an exasperated competitiveness that generates anxiety, fear of not measuring up, and disorientation.
Artificial intelligences do not undergo experiences, do not possess a body, do not feel joy or pain, do not mature through relationships, and do not know from within what love, work, friendship or responsibility mean. Nor do they have a moral conscience, since they do not judge good and evil, grasp the ultimate meaning of situations, or bear responsibility for consequences. They may imitate or even simulate, but they do not understand what they produce, for they lack the affective, relational, and spiritual perspective through which human beings grow in wisdom. #MagnificaHumanitas
The discourse switching seamlessly from "stop eating lunch if you want to afford a home" to "abolish my property taxes because I can't afford it and refuse to change my lifestyle at all" has been interesting to witness.
@DanCrenshawTX James Talarico was a middle school social studies teacher. It's like putting Ken Paxton in the ring with a pedophile: he'd be right at home.
There is an enormous number of comfortable, high propensity voting, socially liberal boomers who fundamentally believe the state is doing great aside from them having to pay too much to insure their enormously valuable untaxed property
They are Becerras people
Senator Collins responds to the scurrilous claim from Graham Platner that she sent him to "die in Iraq."
"That was Platner's decision to serve. He was not drafted."
