Ethiopia’s prime minister says the next election will be the most open and democratic in the country’s history. In reality it will be a sham. Discover the full story: register to read for free https://t.co/tuiCbgfPOU
The U.N. Security Council imposed sanctions on four commanders of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in Sudan for genocidal atrocities against civilians. Why not also the United Arab Emirates officials who are arming the RSF?

For years Ethiopian media channels and pages persistently denied the mass killings of Tigrayans during the war. Blaming victims, accusing the TPLF of killing their own or justifying the murders.
Only now that Abiy has had a falling out with Eritrea are they suddenly embracing the fact that mass killings took place. But only acknowledging the ones done by Eritrean forces, still not the ones done by the ENDF.
🚨BREAKING: In Minneapolis, ICE agents are now illegally detaining children at gun point, who are U.S. citizens, and taking them, as they raid houses without warrants.
In the video you see a man come out of the garage with his hands up. ICE agents are already surrounding the house with guns drawn.
A woman inside has her hands up, terrified, begging them not to break into her home because her kids are in the house.
Instead of de-escalating the situation, one agent with a shield and his gun
pointed at the unarmed mother, enters her garage and yells, “Who is in the house?”
She tells him, “My two [young] kids and son.”
He orders her, with his gun pointed at her, to step out and bring her kids.
He then aims his gun at the back of the garage, where the kids are walking, and she screams, “My kids! My kids are so young!”
Agents grab her teenage son… a U.S. citizen… unarmed, in shorts and sandals, and put his hands behind his back while the younger children cry.
She yells, “my son is a citizen!” but they don’t listen and walk away with him.
Only later, after they realize they can’t arrest a teenager, do they bring him back.
This is not immigration enforcement.
Federal agents have no authority to surround homes, threaten families at gun point, or remove anyone… especially a child… without a warrant.
And yet… this is happening all over Minneapolis.

States-parties should charge Ethiopia with violation of the Genocide Convention in the International Court of Justice for genocide in Tigray.
#Tigray demands #justice
I hope the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice and Public Security will handle this issue with the level of seriousness that it demands @KjetilTronvoll
My friend threatened. One of the world’s leading experts on Ethiopia, professor Kjetil Tronvoll, is being harassed by Ethiopian authorities, and has received death threats from Ethiopians

I like the naive idealism of Kenyan Gen Z and the notion of a new youth-led African democratic awakening.
The reality is that Africa's democratisation in many states is in reverse gear.
One hopes Tanzania will find its way back to the benign 'soft' authoritarian model, consensual politics of its past if it cannot become a fully-fledged democracy.
Five years ago, one of this century’s deadliest wars erupted in northern Ethiopia. The U.S. helped stop the fighting, but the Pretoria agreement remains only partly fulfilled. Tigray is still unstable, there is no justice for victims, and tensions with Eritrea continue. A secure, peaceful Horn of Africa protects U.S. interests, prevents extremist threats, stabilizes partners, and helps millions who are suffering.

Her message? We have no idea just how toxic our modern lifestyle is...
Here are 8 things you need to STOP doing (they're poisoning your body):
