We have alewife in the lab at @FishOceansCAN Burlington. Took them ~ a week to get happy and eating. A big win in itself. Soon we’ll tag them with transmitters to assess survival, helping to guide future tracking of wild fish. Collab w @UWindsor@ONresources@LampreyControl
We're renaming our Slocum glider Daphnia to GOOT in honour of Dr. Chris Vandergoot, who we sadly lost last month. Chris was key in launching our glider program & advancing fish tracking. The SG GOOT is in Lake Ontario, searching for lost tags & testing new tech. We'll miss him 💙
Great to see our work on developing an early warning system for Union Water Supply on @CBCNews The National. We're using state-of-the-art equipment to address water quality challenges with @environmentca, and partner institutions. Check out the clip here: https://t.co/ZuleTQed1S
Benjamin Hlina is a postdoc at @UWindsor. In this interview, we discuss lake trout ecology and habitat use in freshwater environments in Quebec and Ontario. Read more: https://t.co/p0PeSv7VWL
Rounding out the morning are presentations on applications of telemetry in freshwater & estuaries from Jared Connoy @UBCOceans, Caytlyn McFadden at the Lower Fraser Fisheries Alliance, Benjamin Hlina at @UWindsor and Devon Smith at @UNBC. #2024OTNSymposium
The first slocum glider in @lakechamp
is now exploring offshore reefs, collecting crucial water quality and hydroacoustic data. Huge thanks to the team @UVM_RSENR! Safe travels, MaryLou!
🐟Fish telemetry practitioners worldwide, please save the date for the 2025 International Conference on Fish Telemetry to be held in Traverse City Michigan, USA on June 8-13. A website and more details is forthcoming! Please retweet and share with your network.
Getting ready to deploy in Lake Michigan! This glider mission aims to detect larval fish using an AZFP at various nearshore locations. That @UMich M looks great against the yellow🤩. Big thanks to our partners @CIGLR_UM and @NOAA_GLERL for their support. Safe travels, #Marylou!
We're thrilled to support @ScienceUWindsor PhD student Nathan Drouillard in developing a new way to measure dissolved phosphorus in Lake Erie! This key nutrient is crucial for understanding harmful algal blooms.

Just deployed! A new buoy in Lake Erie's central basin will help researchers model coastal erosion. Look out for UWRAEON1 on @RealGLOS#GreatLakes#portstanley
TrackdAT has been updated with all papers published up to 2023!! ✅ Lots of amazing new research available to explore on https://t.co/DbrVC0gft2, with data from >2600 papers across 651 species globally 🐟🦈
Successful launch of the Mary Lou in Lake Ontario! Over the next 3 weeks, the Mary Lou will track tagged bloater and Lake trout (plus collect environmental variables) to help understand post-stocking movements. Thanks to @USFWS and @USGS for their efforts and support!
