@PaulHerzog3 @arbetter Cross border work for an extended period of time causes major tax issues for the company. A company won’t be cool with suddenly becoming subject Indian or Chinese taxes just because of one employee waiting for a visa renewal. They’ll obviously just fire them.

@JimothyBurg1ary Actual tax CPA response here. You’d get a failure to file penalty and you wouldn’t receive any refund if you were owed one. If you owed a balance then you’d accrue failure to pay penalties too. The point of filing the return is also to affirm to the IRS you had no other income.

It’s a shelter of last resort and most of these animals have no hope of being adopted. Euthanasia is a very sad choice but the reality is it’s more humane than letting them suffer wild.

@ryxcommar In my field (accounting) the productivity gains are similar but we still hire juniors because there is simple, uncomplicated work that a senior shouldn’t be bothered doing. Is there not similarly with SWE?
