Tip for anyone heading to the #TdU2023 and you have an iPhone - Install an AirTag on your bike.
It's a VERY cheap way of knowing where your bike is should it be "relocated without your knowledge"*

@hikosaemon Can confirm this is an issue. E. g. the mailman refused to hand me my credit card, as my middle name was missing — my name exceeded the character limit.
One teller at the bank insisted to include Mr. in my name, and it took 30–45 minutes of arguing to delete it.
Something quite amazing on 🇫🇷 TV just now 👇
Macron being interviewed by 50 journalists all with autistic spectrum disorder. They ask him questions no one else would, and he replies as normally he wouldn't. Incredible to watch
Chapeau 👏 to him and @France2tv @JournalPapotin

(@scientificamer measured the efficiency of locomotion for various species on the planet. Humans on bikes blew all away!)
What should we do? A good start would be adopting weight-based car taxes and fees, nudging automakers and consumers toward safer, more efficient models.

Yesterday I spent hours capturing this: an intricately detailed photo of the sun shot using a specially modified telescope. Here it is in the full 164 Megapixels, so you can zoom into every nitty gritty detail. That sunspot group on the top is currently pointed right at Earth!
@jakeadelstein The production quality is top notch. It has a serial vibe to it (meant as a compliment), and has another layer for people familiar with Japan and Japanese culture. The meta commentary is gold, too. E. g. when the overeager intern asks the question everyone wants to know. 👌
@jakeadelstein Love the series. Small comment regarding ads: listeners in Japan don’t get served any ads (at least I don’t and your podcast isn’t the only one). I’d hate not to contribute to the making of season 2 😉
(Thread) In the first What If? book, I answered a question about cooking a steak by dropping it from space. At one point, I commented—jokingly!—that if anyone put a steak in a hypersonic wind tunnel to gather better data, I’d love to see the video.
Well, I have good news.

Riding in Australia is overwhelming fear inducing. Many people driving cars are abusive, volatile and lack a basic understanding of the road rules or respect for other humans. I also drive a car and I manage navigate other road users just fine. Take me back to Spain.
As an academic writing coach, here are the 7 mistakes I see supervisors and PIs make in the process of co-writing a paper with their PhD students or mentees.
