One board assembled and working! (With an ugly tweak or two)

It’s a discrete pushbutton-activated latching led lamp circuit.

Now onto prototyping the rest of the lamp structure…

Prototype number 2 was a major improvement. It was great to break through arbitrary assumptions and unconscious biases in the design 👇

It was a fun process learning from these mistakes, especially seeing the design get simpler and simpler with each iteration.

This redesign also showed that the button travel didn't have to be modeled in, because the printed material is so flexible.
When the travel was modelled in, the lamp shade made a nasty crunching noise as the button was pressed due to the prints sliding over eachother.

First prototype is a good starting point but there’s lots of room for improvement.

Proves that the print diffuses the LEDs and it’s satisfying to look at / use.

But it’s floppy, the button travel is restricted and the central mechanism is overcomplicated.

This technique on my 3d printed paste-applying jig saved me. I did not consider the stencilling process enough when making this round board shape.

So I made the diameter slightly oversized and put 3 small protrusions on the inside. The board presses into them and remains secure

Lucky Shot! I was photographing the sun through a backyard telescope when a plane happened to fly across the solar disk in near perfect alignment. This was not planned, it just happened. Notice the turbulent wakes from the jet engines leaving blurry trails across the solar disk.
