En dat mocht óók wel eens gezegd worden. Hoogwaardige brandstof verbranden om je huis op 20 gr te brengen is grote onzin. Kom er maar in @TheoVenema 💪 #exergie https://t.co/U6VkDBhl7f
This week the European Parliament will hold its final vote on legislation governing the use of New Genomic Techniques (NGTs).
NGTs can give farmers access to crop varieties that are more resistant to disease, more resilient to climate impacts, and require fewer fertilisers and crop protection products.
Europe has the opportunity to back science, innovation, and more sustainable agriculture.
Send a message to Members of the European Parliament and urge them to support NGTs.

⭕🇺🇸🇮🇹 US LOSES BIG AS ITALY DUMPS BOEING FOR AIRBUS
Italy has officially abandoned Boeing’s KC-46 Pegasus and signed a €1.4 billion deal for six Airbus A330 MRTT tankers instead.
Rome originally picked the American KC-46 in 2022, canceled it in 2024, and has now fully shifted to Europe’s tanker giant, handing Airbus another major global victory.
Italy is now the 19th operator of the A330 MRTT platform.

Germany did not merely misread Russia. It created an entire school of thought around the misreading.
Ostpolitik made sense during the Cold War. And on a practical level, it improved life for lots of Germans caught on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain. But after the Cold War, much of this was translated into a quasi-religious belief by the German political elite, often clad in highly intellectual-sounding language:
- that trade would civilise geopolitics,
- dependence would create moderation,
- and economic integration would dissolve power politics.
Things that sound too good to be true typically are. But critics were dismissed as primitive Cold Warriors.
Eastern Europeans were patronised and Americans treated as vulgar hawks. We’ve all seen the embarrassing pictures from the UN General Assembly, where German civil servants were laughing with tears in their eyes because Donald Trump was speaking the truth.
And meanwhile Germany built Nord Stream, deepened its energy dependence on Russia, and — in one of the most consequential strategic mistakes in modern European history — shut down nuclear power without any credible geopolitical fallback.
What was presented as moral sophistication often turned out to be strategic infantilism, and the result was certainly not peace. It was strategic dependency — and, to put it bluntly, weakness — disguised as sophistication.
One of the central themes of The Lost Peace.
I’m a chemist.
I need to say this - because it’s getting dangerous out there.
It’s called chemophobia.
And it’s turning scientifically illiterate panic into a personality trait.
People are now terrified of:
• “artificial chemicals”
• molecules made in a lab
• pesticides at parts-per-billion
• ingredients they can’t pronounce
Meanwhile they drink alcohol, inhale smoke, burn fuel, eat plant toxins and scroll on phones built entirely by chemistry.
The hypocrisy is unbelievable.
Chemistry is not some dark force attacking humanity.
Chemistry is:
• medicine
• fertilizers
• vaccines
• materials
• electronics
• clean water
• food preservation
• modern agriculture
• literally your own body
Without chemistry, modern civilization collapses frighteningly fast.
And yet social media has convinced millions of people that “chemical-free” is a meaningful scientific concept.
It isn’t.
And when fear replaces chemistry, people stop trusting:
• vaccines • medicines • food safety • crop protection • innovation itself
A scientifically illiterate society becomes easy to manipulate.
So yes - I will keep defending chemistry.
Because chemistry is not the enemy.
Chemistry is the reason most of us are alive long enough to complain about it.
The first clip is from Amsterdam. The Russians shot down MH-17, killing 300 people, almost all of them Dutch.
How can the Netherlands tolerate such glorification of a mass-murdering thug state?
Mijn overstap naar de Russische inlichtingendienst SVR zou minder controversieel zijn dan dit. Als iemand zegt iets van binnenuit te willen slopen/veranderen, vertrouw diegene nooit. Kaukasische wijsheid.

@POLITICOEurope You missed the headline “99 percent of samples passed the European Food Safety Authority’s annual check on pesticide residues”
Your food is safe to eat.
Today, we announced $270 million of new military support to Ukraine.
Ukraine’s fight is our fight. Their cause — freedom, democracy, sovereignty — is our cause. Good to see President @ZelenskyyUa today in Yerevan. 🇨🇦🇺🇦
HOW’S IT GOING? Russia has announced that for the first time in history, the May 9 Victory parade will feature no military vehicles. No tanks, no APCs, no self propelled guns. Nada. The Defense Ministry blamed "the current operational situation."
Canada has been invited to a European Political Community (EPC) meeting, the first time a traditionally non-european country has been.
Canada is aligning closer to Europe than ever before.
