@FarmersEdgeAC Very early in training, have them start doing the communication with your most patience grain buyer. Give them the lingo and instruction on how place orders/receive bids. Have them start receiving bids from buyer who separates basis and futures so they understand the mechanics.

@jasonmauck1 In a rye/soybean arrangement I experimented trying to lay chemically terminated rye down flat with roller/crimper, both pre/post anthesis. So the rye was dry similar to a wheat stalk. It was unsuccessful in my mind. Would need something like a tire and heavy weight.

Interested to hear others metrics. I tracked a stirator bin on separate LP and Electric meter 😬. Better off not knowing those per bushel costs. I’ve likely screwed up the math so where. But if you’re looking for ideas or numbers to be more efficient or expand. This is what I did

Average Variable Corn Drying Costs. I built a new facility in 2019 to expand capacity and have tried tracking some metrics. These are my electric and gas costs from a YTY expense including loading grain out. Who else tracks costs and what other metrics should I be adding? '23 est

Operate several shares through facility and decided to try Libra cart to track ownership. Opting against a scale. So far have been very pleased with typical error ~1% or less. Recording correct moisture important. More room for error at field however. Works for us.

This facility allows us to store 100% of production. Let’s us haul to an end user 25 miles away with a premium added product. End user typically is $.20-.50/bu better on basis. Semi sized pit, large wet bin, small dryer. Eliminated a truck over a 13” auger. And no bottlenecks.
