ive been using the kindle 4th gen I got for christmas in like 2015, still works great. amazon is finally discontinuing all support for it which I understand, but it still works. sucks to have to replace it when it serves its function for me just fine.

@selfradiance11 @karpathy for sure. the node ecosystem is so jacked though, as soon as you pull in a big library for something you don't want to write yourself you end up with hundreds of transitive dependencies so it's almost all or nothing without taking on a bunch of auditing overhead

@selfradiance11 @karpathy ive been considering this as well. a benefit to open source libraries is that people are finding vulns that youd prob introduce if you wrote it yourself and wouldn't know. is the risk of that being exploited greater than the risk of pulling in a trojan though? not so sure anymore

@karpathy these supply chain attacks have been crazy lately. there are plenty of tools for auditing your environments for libraries that have publicly disclosed vulnerabilities but they don't really handle trojans where the problem comes from the initial install
