Our red panda's diet consists primarily of fresh bamboo leaves and shoots, which she receives daily. Her diet is supplemented with a variety of fruits, with apples being her favorite treat. She also receives a specially formulated, complete lifecycle chow designed to meet the nutritional needs of leaf eating animals, providing the high fiber diet they require.
Fun Fact: A Mostly-Vegetarian Carnivore
Although red pandas eat mostly bamboo, they are classified as carnivores because they belong to the biological order Carnivora. This classification is based on their biological order, not their diet. Over time, red pandas adapted to a primarily bamboo-based diet, making them one of the few members that are mostly herbivorous.

Mount Vernon was home to George Washington’s farm, situated above the Potomac River in Virginia. When the land was granted to his family in 1674 it was about 2,000 acres; he would go on to purchase adjacent land, amassing nearly 8,000 acres.
After the Revolutionary War, Washington transformed farming at Mount Vernon inspired by the latest British improvements. He divided farms into seven fields for crop rotation and built barns and livestock shelters based on British designs.
The broad vistas, tree-lined lanes, and hedgerows reflected order and productivity. Many remarked that is resembled the British countryside.
For his estate, he imported globally. He received wheat from Russia, Britain, and Africa; plants from the Caribbean; and specimens from across the British Empire. He also cultivated an experimental garden and orchard, demonstrating how international exchange could enrich American farming.

The Mayans developed a sophisticated mathematical system, notably using a base 20 (vigesimal) system. They are also known for their detailed calendars and astronomical observations, which required advanced mathematical understanding.
Researchers have developed a flexible, breathable skin patch that can effectively target and destroy melanoma cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue. The innovative device uses laser-induced graphene embedded with copper(II) oxide nanoparticles within a soft silicone (PDMS) matrix. The patch remains inactive until gently heated to about 108°F (42°C) with a low-power laser, at which point it releases copper ions directly into the tumor.
In preclinical mouse studies, the “heat-and-release” patch reduced melanoma lesions by 97% within just 10 days after two one-hour treatments. Beyond shrinking the primary tumor, the patch triggered multiple forms of programmed cell death (including apoptosis, cuproptosis, and ferroptosis), reduced cancer cell migration, and stimulated an immune response that helped prevent metastasis. Importantly, it showed no significant damage to surrounding healthy skin and avoided harmful copper accumulation in major organs.
The patch is stretchable, transparent, reusable, and easy to apply, making it a potentially convenient and less invasive alternative to traditional surgical excision for skin cancer.
While the results are highly encouraging, the technology is still in the early experimental stage and requires further testing before human clinical use.
