It's a little nuts that L. Frank Baum wrote 13 sequels to The Wizard of Oz, and Return to Oz is the only serious attempt to adapt any of them, but there seems to be no end to "reimaginings" of the original text.
Very important thread for those who are in homeschooling or private school circles (who may not understand what happens in public schools when abuse or sexual assault is even suspected):
What happened to @Emilie_Dye, had it occurred in a public school would have immediately— IMMEDIATELY- triggered an investigation by law enforcement. Emilie’s assailant should arguably be in prison today. Instead, he continues to live his life of freedom.

I think I will in fact deactivate this account as soon as convenient after I download my data. Links to my other socials and my email address can all be found at my website, https://t.co/WJZ5OyDQRM
I've been pondering the difference between life in America from 2014 to '24; I wonder if it's my age or the era itself that makes me think it's mostly the same, just... shallower, more plastic, stupider. Digital content overload and Amazon delivery trucks everywhere, y'know?
Starting to feel like it's time to get off Facebook and Twitter, and become entirely an email newsletter and handwritten letters type of guy, at least for the duration of the second Trump presidency.
@sdmoore I know I'm just a random mortal (was trying to type "mutual," but upon checking, Autocorrect was more accurate than I was...I am a mortal, but we are not apparently mutuals)
...but if it means anything, I fully support you rescheduling to protect your health if you want that.
Jesus is still Lord is fine, sure, but it’s easy to say from a place of privilege. We’re not afraid of having our homes bombed out or our starving children shot by snipers.
Basically, it’s okay to cry out in despair when you’re confused and uncertain. It’s biblical, even.
For my birthday (which was actually six months ago), I got my housemates to rent out an old-timey movie theater so that we could see 2001: A Space Odyssey on the biggest screen with ear-splitting sound. The theater is also a café-bookstore, so: not a bad time. Would recommend.
the most dubious honor I get for still wearing n95 masks after all these years is the rumor that some people call me "BME" behind my back (for "Big Mask Energy")
I was originally just going to say "what did I ever see in the ASP," but then I realized that would imply that I previously voted for ASP candidates, which to my memory I never have
To be clear, he’s right on all of this except the healthcare part.
In fact, we want universal healthcare!
Our vision of healthcare just doesn’t include mutilation of adults of children disguised as “transgender healthcare”.
I watched Nightmare Before Christmas for the third time ever this year, this time with music performed live by a symphony orchestra. I didn't use to like it, but I am beginning to think of it as a modern fairy tale, a mythology written for the late 20th and 21st century
I sometimes think of Owen Cyclops as a "problematic fave," but in this thread as in many others, he shows himself to be an insightful — "galaxy-brained," if you will — thinker who makes connections I would never have picked up on alone
'the nightmare before christmas' was released 31 years ago today.
a strange film: after three decades, its still a feature of the cultural landscape (year round), you see its imagery often - it clearly has a special relationship to us.
this year, i tried to figure out why

@brent_waggoner To be clear, I'm not saying FX Christmas Carol is great, life-changing art necessarily, but it does attempt to ask the question "what if Scrooge is not just a grumpy guy, but actually unforgivable?"
I'm pretty sure I made this tweet well before I read Walking on Water by (Episcopalian author) Madeleine L'Engle and I felt SO vindicated when I saw that she was also inspired by that passage to "believe six impossible things before breakfast" each day
