Been told workers at @StMungos have voted by a margin of over 70% to take indefinite strike action. The @unitetheunion members at the homelessness charity are in their third week of strike action over a 2.25% pay offer.
Here is some basic information on why members of @unitetheunion at St Mongo’s are on strike. The contrast between the low pay of the front line workers & the Chief Executive is astounding & the charity has the funds to tackle the low pay crisis it’s workers are facing.
#StMungosStrike is an example for all us charity workers. Low pay & high workload is causing burnout, at a time when our services are needed most. Charity bosses hide behind the friendly face & 'non-profit' status, but they're still attacking workers. We have to fight back!
I say worst because I see the impact of our government’s disregard for those very same people every single day. I’m on strike because our services are chronically underfunded, our staff are burnt out and our senior executives don’t give a shit.
Working for St Mungo’s was both the best and worst decision I ever made. I say best because it’s a privilege to support and advocate for some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
Frontline workers at St. Mungos provide a lifeline to thousands of vulnerable people.
Since 2013, their pay has plummeted by 25%. Meanwhile, Chief Execs have enjoyed a 77% pay rise.
Proud to join @unitetheunion members on strike for decent pay. Solidarity!
Solidarity with St Mungos workers out on unprecedented month-long strike! Workers' pay down 25% but senior management up 350%!! We visited picket at Hither Green this morning - spirits high and plenty of solidarity from residents and local community! #StMungosStrike@SMUnite
🚨NEW: Charity workers at the homeless charity St Mungo's are set to take four weeks of strike action from Monday 24 April to 21 May.
@unitetheunion says the homeless charity still hasn’t resolved a pay dispute going back to 2021.
a society that cares more about a 96-year-old dying after a long life of the most extreme privilege and power than an unarmed 24-year-old being executed on the street by the state is a sick society
“Trade unionists are greedy for wanting a pay rise? The profits of the top FTSE companies have gone up 73% since 2019. When are we going to ask if they’re greedy?”
