I had a meaningful conversation with a Mississippi mother and daughter about the heartbreaking and preventable tragedies caused by drunk driving. I’m grateful for their Mothers Against Drunk Driving advocacy as we continue working together to make our roads safer for everyone.
No one should have to share the road with a driver who is drunk or impaired. Honoring and remembering those who have lost their lives ignites us to keep working for legislative action and social change to ensure that everyone gets to and from their destinations safely. #EndImpairedDriving #MADD45
Today I met with Mothers Against Drunk Driving @MADDNational advocates and Jennifer Levi, a constituent who lost her home in the Palisades Fire and whose son Braun was tragically killed by a drunk driver in May.
I stand with Jennifer in urging @USDOT to act now to fully implement the HALT Drunk Driving Law and require impaired driving prevention tech in all new cars.
This is the biggest news you will read today.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) - best known for those crash-test ratings we all look at when buying a car - has just set a new gold standard:
Anti-drunk driving technology is now officially recognized as a benchmark for vehicle safety.
This is the kind of progress MADD has been fighting for. Life-saving technology built into cars means safer roads, fewer tragedies, and a future where impaired driving is stopped before it starts.
We’re proud to see IIHS raising the bar and pushing this movement forward.
We had an impactful day at the State Capitol, advocating for AB 366, designed to save lives and prevent impaired driving tragedies. Every voice shared brings us one step closer to protecting communities across CA from the devastating effects of impaired driving. @AsmCottie
We, along with our traffic safety partners, are deeply disappointed with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s inadequate progress on anti-drunk driving technology, as described in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's update to Congress.
We stand ready to work with the new Congress and Administration to ensure that anti-drunk driving technology is built into all new cars as required by the HALT Drunk Driving Act signed into law three years ago. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety estimates that more than 10,000 lives will be saved every year when the HALT Drunk Driving Act is fully implemented.

Today, WRAP mourns the passing of longtime WRAP Director and retired @usairforce Colonel Jeff Levy.
Jeff, a victim of drunk driving having lost his son in an impaired driving crash in Virginia in 1997, was honored by WRAP for his “admirable work in the region’s youth communities to combat underage drinking and drunk driving” and presented with the organization’s 2004 Youth Leadership Award as shown here featuring (l-r) former @7NewsDC anchor @Alison7News, Jeff and then WRAP Chairman John Undeland.

"The real point of .05 is just deterrence: that if you're going to go out, having a good time, consuming alcohol, just plan ahead [and] don't get behind a wheel—that's always the safest option."- Frank Harris MADD state govt affairs director. #05SavesLives

"This bill does serve as another reminder – the violent crime of drunk driving is 100% preventable, and if you do commit the crime and there is a situation that involves children, there is another consequence" MADD's Frank Harris said. #BentleysLaw https://t.co/U4ggMXDg6a
