I have friends who are older and very fit because of their lifestyle. They don't drink or smoke and exercise daily. They also have the most unfit kids who don't follow their example. This has always worried me as I am raising young children. I have also seen families with hard-working and wealthy parents who raise the laziest and most entitled children.

We always want our children to do better than us, but when and where does this go wrong for most people? I think it comes from the time and attention we personally give our kids and the lapses we allow.

My wife and I are early risers. I have a particular sleep problem I am still trying to solve, but my kids can sleep all day on vacation if you let them. A friend with an older son who had just graduated and was back home, jobless, used to tell me how alarmed he was that the son would go out all night, come back early in the morning, and sleep all day.

I told him then that if he didn't force him to change that habit, he would remain jobless and stay with his parents longer. They eventually forced him to change, and he moved out. He has a job now and struggles a lot. His parents are concerned that he isn't thriving. He is now almost 30, and I think about this all the time. At 25, I was a beast and had started many businesses.

While we want our kids and young adults to experience life on their own terms in a world vastly different from the one we grew up in, we can't help but notice that others whose children were more disciplined are thriving better. One indicator I have seen that correlates with success in younger people is fitness.

A friend’s son started going to the gym regularly, and he even inspired his cousins to do so. I checked on LinkedIn recently, and he is doing exceptionally well as a lawyer and investment banker without any family connections or assistance. His younger cousins, who are looking up to him, are following in his footsteps. I decided to get my kids to spend more time with him.

The role models our children need may be closer to their age than ours. It is why we need to amplify the lifestyles of young, disciplined, and successful people more. Not every person will make it through creative pursuits. I stress this to my kids all the time. There are billions of YouTube channels, but there is only one MrBeast or IShowSpeed.

Social media is highlighting more unrealistic role models than the most useful ones. My daughter is likely one of the most intelligent young children that I know, but because she doesn't want to be seen as a nerd, she is adapting to popular culture to blend in, in a way that scares me. This sometimes affects the way she learns. While I don't want to restrict her now from experiencing the world, I have realized that she needs different role models.

My son’s role models are nerds, and he nerds out in ways that surprise me and it is also worrying. We can be watching a movie, and he goes online to research it and summarise the plot so he can leave to code. He is not experiencing life enough outside the internet.

They will either eventually be ok in a world very different from ours or struggle in a world that becomes worse than ours, without the skills to build personal resilience and strong social skills.

I recently had a personal experience that made me realize I was fortunate to have left home early and to have different role models from my parents. Having a broken home led to different outcomes for my siblings and me, but the fact that I had strong personalities like my mother’s uncle and the uncles I grew up around helped me learn a lot more about life and priorities.

The world is a very complex place, and life is not a bed of roses. While we want the best outcomes for our kids, we have to finally admit that they will learn far more from others than they will ever learn from us. The best thing we can do for them is expose them to the right kind of people early enough, then hope and pray that we didn't misread those people.

When will this embarrassment end?

Can we get through a day without troubling news in this country? At a time when Nigerians need joy and unity—something the national football team, the Super Eagles, has been providing by winning matches and lifting our spirits worldwide—these same players are being denied their basic match allowances.

A country that writes off trillions in debts for government agencies and political allies, and squanders money on grandiose, self-serving projects, now struggles to pay the basic match bonuses owed to our players.

Nigeria deserves a better international image than this ongoing failure to honor previously agreed-upon allowances before the tournament. The Super Eagles do not deserve this embarrassment or the avoidable distractions ahead of a crucial quarter-final match. Nigeria must learn to fulfill its obligations.

My wife has not been able to get the indigeneship certificate from her actual state of origin. Why. Because she converted to Christianity. Yes. Sokoto state has denied her the so-called "state of origin certificate," despite many efforts.

In fact, after our wedding, I insisted that she try again. She traveled up to Sokoto, spent a full week there and came back empty handed. They refused to issue her the certificate.

Today, her state of origin certificate is from my state, not her father's state. Again, I'll remind you why: because she converted to Christianity. They told her in clear and plain terms. They re-emphasized it in the Hausa language at the office in Sokoto, to make it crystal clear. They were not going to issue her the certificate because she is a Christian.

So, a few months after our wedding, 17 years ago, she was admitted to the Nigerian Law School (NLS). We heard that Sokoto state gave out 500,000 Naira and a laptop to each indigene of the state who got admitted to the NLS. But my wife almost missed resumption because we could not raise 240,000 Naira to pay her fees. We had just married, but wedding aside, I was normally and naturally broke. But then, by a 'miracle', we managed to raise the fee a day to the closing date of registration.

Story two:
While I was in Unijos, I knew Christian students from Bauchi state who were constantly denied their state's bursary, because, you guessed it, they are Christians. The scholarship board would somehow omit their names from the approved bursary list. They can tell that you're a Christian just by your name, even without ever meeting/knowing you.

So, when the affected students appealed, the state's student association would encourage them to go and file a complaint. Usually, after a lot of back and forth, and traveling back to Bauchi to report the omission, traveling to their local government to obtain validation letters and then providing proof on indigeneship, 1. They would have spent about the equivalent of the bursary amount on logistics and transportation. 2. They would finally be told that the year's bursary program had ended, and that they should wait for the following year. The following year, the same “omission mistake” would happen. Rinse and repeat.

Therefore, while thy government agency and the officials in charge would never tell them that they were being victimized because of their Christian faith, both sides of the drama knew. It was just a power play and the Christians could do nothing about it.

Those brethren went through this ordeal and graduated, never receiving this statutory benefit from their state, even though they qualified for it. Their only offense was that they were in the wrong religion.

Time would fail me to multiply these stories.
There has been a systematic, systemic assault on Christians and Christianity in these parts. What you hear in the attached video is the normal experience of many Christians who happen to be minorities in their state. The genocide dimension is simply one segment of an elaborate, diabolical, subjugation project.

It has only been getting worse.
But it has to stop!

I schooled in Kaduna Polytechnic, Tudun Wada.

KadPoly is the biggest Polytechnic in West Africa.

There are about 50 mosques in KadPoly but just one Chapel for Christians. Even inside hostels, there are mosques.

The Christian Community begged the school authority to give them just a plot of land to build a Chapel with their own money, the school blatantly said NO.

FCS, NFCS, and NIFES share one Church, and they are always having misunderstanding because one fellowship stays beyond thier allocated time.

The like of RCF, WCF, DCF, and co, use classrooms for services, and the school authorities always caution them to stop it.

I also schooled in BUK (Bayero University, Kano).

BUK and ABU Zaria, are the two biggest schools in the North, if not in Nigeria.

There are more than 100 mosques in BUK but no single chapel as at when I was in the school.

Christian Students pray outside—even in the rain. Classes are prohibited.

I once asked "Why?" and I was told that the then Emir of Kano said that not even the president (GoodLuck Jonathan) can lay a block in BUK in the name of building a chapel.

In many departmental fellowships, students always turned down the position of fellowship presidents, secretary and other positions that put them in limelight because some lecturers who are extremists in their religion could fail them.

Many departmental presidents stayed two to three extra years in school, not because they legitimately got carryover in their courses but because they are presidents.

There's one St. Augustine Catholic Church behind Ajegunle Hostel in Tudun Wada. It is the only "stubborn" Church in the heart of Tudun Wada and it is always burnt at every given opportunity by extremists. Many of their priests and members have paid the ultimate prize because they refused to relocate the Church.

Reverend Father Borogo Vitues, the then chaplain in KadPoly was recently kidnapped and k!lled by Fulani herdsmen.

The Church in the North is being persecuted, suppressed and suffocated.

It is strategically planned by elites and meticulously carried out.

We don't enter churches here in the North without being searched thoroughly because of su!c!de bombers.

Oh, Southern Churches, I'm happy for your freedom and liberty to serve God without fear of "we may not go out of this church alive."

Christmas is approaching, at least one or two Churches in the North will be bombed by terror!sts.

There's Christian Genocide in Nigeria. It is not CLAMOURING as many people assumed.

But Esther, Listen to this, because you are in the palace does not mean you are safe. If you don't fight for your brethren being slaughtered outside now, soon, it will get to the PALACE, and it'll be your turn.
