Four days in Kenya. 6 multidisciplinary civil society organisations in the room. One question guiding us all: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐍𝐨𝐧-𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐭?

Our ED, Ms. @kiraboaggie represented the Secretariat at the CAADP Kampala Learning Lab. A lesson she carried from Kenya is that influence without evidence is guesswork, and evidence without a pathway for action is only description. The region does not need more reports sitting on shelves. It needs evidence that walks all the way to a decision.

CSOs, farmers’ organisations, private sector representatives, professional groups, researchers, youth, women, and faith-based organisations all sat in the same room and confronted the same hard truth: in a resource-constrained season, no single organisation, office or alliance can carry CAADP implementation alone. Solidarity is now a survival strategy, not a slogan.

Twenty years into this advocacy journey, the Kenya Learning Lab reinforced an important truth: participation was never the goal. The goal is what we bring to the table and what we do with it afterwards.

Partners like @CARE and GIZ enables, CNG leads, @FRAUGANDA strengthens, and Non-State Actors influence. Together, we can turn participation into meaningful action and evidence into decisions.

Last week, @FRAUGANDA joined legislators at the 12th Parliamentary Orientation on Food and Nutrition Security, held from 11th–12th August 2026 at Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala.

The orientation focused on strengthening Members of Parliament’s understanding of Uganda’s food and nutrition challenges and, importantly, their role in shaping policies, legislation, and investments that can deliver better nutrition outcomes for all.

A key call during the meeting came from the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, @RebeccaKadagaUG, who urged the 12th @Parliament_Ug to fast-track the Food and Nutrition Bill and strengthen Uganda’s legal framework for addressing hunger, malnutrition, and food insecurity.

She noted that there is no need to start drafting a new bill, as the proposed legislation had already been forwarded to the Executive during the 11th Parliament. Instead, she called on the 12th Parliament to follow up on the legislation, resubmit it where necessary, and engage the Speaker to ensure that it moves through the parliamentary process.
