A Thai local expressed strong confusion and frustration over a Jewish-owned fabric shop in the 200 Year Road area of Patong, Phuket. The shop, located near a cluster of Israeli-run businesses, allegedly prohibited Thai people from simply walking past its front. Staff and the owner would make displeased faces, and on some occasions would curse and chase passersby away, as if fearing they might notice something improper.

The same shop reportedly hired Burmese workers instead of Thai staff. Whenever the Israeli owner was present, he would display an irritated expression and prevent Thais from even walking near the entrance. Locals claimed that whenever officials approached for an inspection, the owner and staff would suddenly flee or shut the shop, appearing to have advance warning every time.

The observer found the behavior especially offensive, viewing it as a deliberate slight against Thai people.
