@CatholicSat I understand how Latin would be a better unifying language for different groups, however, I wonder if the homily (which I assume was/is given in the vernacular in TLMs) would still make having different Mass times necessary for those wanting to hear the homily in their language.
Never before has a pope made a visit to the residence of a foreign ambassador.
But that changed when Pope Leo XIV visited U.S. Ambassador Brian Burch on the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
That fact alone makes the occasion historic. But taking place on the Fourth of July, during America's semiquincentennial year, the gesture carried unmistakable significance.
While fully embracing the universal mission of the papacy, Pope Leo XIV also chose to publicly honor his homeland at a moment when the United States is reflecting on its founding, its ideals, and its role in the world.
A truly historic moment. 🇺🇸
Two thousand years ago, Jesus called Peter from the sea and made him the rock of His Church. And now the rock of the Church is climbing rocks by the sea... That's funny to think about. 🌊🪨
The Pope’s Prayer intention for the month of July is to pray for respect for human life, so all may recognise and protect the unique and unrepeatable value of every human being.
“Lord of life, you created us in love and called us to live in fulness. Each person is a sacred gift that reflects your face, from the first instance of existence to the final breath of their journeys on earth.
Today we ask for the grace to recognise and protect the unique and unrepeatable value of every human being. May we learn to welcome life unconditionally, to tenderly care for fragility, to accompany each stage with respect, and bravely defend those who have no voice.”
"How many souls risk being lost because of this new tear in the seamless garment of the Church?"
"Faith can never lead us to renounce obedience to the church."
- Cardinal Sarah
Even Cardinal Sarah who is a strong advocate for the Traditions of the Church to be maintained is against what the SSPX have done.
The SSPX have brought great divison and disunity to the church of Christ.
If you’re not a supporter of the SSPX and you’re happy they’re “out” of the wider Church, you should be ashamed.
If you’re a supporter of the SSPX and you’re happy you’re “out” of the wider Church, you should be ashamed.
"Whoever the Roman Pontiff judges to be a schismatic for not expressly admitting and reverencing his power must stop calling himself Catholic." (Bl. Pius IX, "Quartus supra")
The SSPX wants its own special bishops who will operate within the diocese of another bishop.
The bishops are the successors of the apostles. An apostle is one who is sent. Nobody is sending these hypothetical bishops. They’re appointing themselves.
I understand they’re afraid they’ll be fewer SSPX priests ordained, but they can’t act on their own.
The Vatican agreed to meet with the SSPX (twice as of today) under one condition. Suspend or postpone the scheduled consecrations, and dialogue will be started to deal with all their concerns in the hope of them coming back into full communion with the Church. The SSPX refused.
Consecrating bishops without a papal mandate triggers automatic (latae sententiae) excommunication for the consecrating bishop(s) and the one(s) being consecrated.
They’re going to excommunicate themselves.
"The thought of hell terrifies me; I cannot bear it. It seems almost impossible to me, I cannot imagine my God being so angry with me as to drive me away, after loving me so much. Yet this is a most certain truth. If I do not fight against my pride, my arrogance and self-esteem, hell awaits me. Oh what a dreadful thought! Is it then true, O beloved Jesus, that I could no longer love you? no longer see your face? that I should be driven from you? I must hope this will never happen, but it might"
- Saint John XXIII
Happy 44th Anniversary of priestly Ordination to Pope Leo XIV! Ad multos annos! Let us pray for the Holy Father: May the Lord preserve him, and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies. Amen.
