BREAKING: A bank employee allegedly helped fraudsters access dormant customer accounts, including one belonging to a dead person.

And the court has now backed the bank’s decision to fire him.

Former Co-op Bank Relationship Manager Amos Bett Koech lost his case after judges found the dismissal was lawful and fair.

The allegations are chilling.

Court records show:
- Dormant accounts were allegedly reactivated using forged documents.
- One document was a fake prison discharge certificate.
- System logs showed unauthorized account access.
- Koech admitted to accessing accounts outside his mandate.

He later sued the bank, demanding:
- Compensation worth over Sh2 million.
- Reinstatement of banking privileges.

The court threw out ALL his claims.
But it got worse.
The bank’s counterclaim succeeded, too.

He was ordered to repay a Sh2.9 million staff loan plus interest.

Amos joined Co-op Bank in 2013 and rose through the ranks to Relationship Manager in Diaspora Banking.
He was caught in September 2020.

Why this matters to ordinary Kenyans:
Your bank account can be exposed from the inside.

Not just by hackers.
Not just by scammers.
But potentially by insiders with system access.

That is why banks monitor staff aggressively.
That is why dormant accounts are treated as high risk.
And that is why every Kenyan should regularly check statements, alerts, and unusual activity.

One careless assumption can cost someone their life savings. A big win this one.
