Good morning with good news: Poland's Coal generation fell from 90% in August 2015 to 52.7% in August 2024!
Wind & solar jumped from 5% in August 2015 to 28% in August 2024.
Solar was 2.5% of Poland's electricity in August 2020 and 18% in August 2024.
Rapid decarbonization!
@TheEVuniverse You wanna know how much of Norway's electricity is consumed by EVs? With over a quarter of the total fleet now electric. Here. It's... uh... not really very much, is it?
NEWS: Norway's electric car sales have just set new world record, taking up 94% market share in August. @Tesla's Model Y led sales with 18.8% of the market.
“If this trend continues, we will soon achieve the target of having 100% zero-emissions fleet in 2025."
Today is the last day of coal powered electricity in Denmark. Block 3 at the Esbjerg plant will close down today.
At its peak it used 500.000 tonnes per year, emitting 1,2 million tonnes of CO2 yearly.
A good day for the climate 😊
BREAKING: China's CO2 emissions dropped 1% in Q2 of 2024, the first quarterly drop since Covid-19
The new analysis by @laurimyllyvirta for @CarbonBrief shows China remains on track for a fall in annual CO2 this year, meaning emissions would've peaked in 2023
🌄🚗🏙️Key drivers are record growth of solar / wind, as well as EVs and China's real-estate slowdown
⚡️Drop in 2024 depends on electricity demand growth easing in H2, per industry projections
⛰️🏭Strong demand from coal-to-chemicals, industry, has been raising energy use ahead of pre-Covid trends
⚖️If this pace of growth continues, CO2 would be flat in 2024 rather than falling

⚡️🚘BREAKING: For the first time ever, more than half of cars sold in China last month were electric
New-energy vehicles, including EVs and PHEVs, reached a record-high 51.1% of retail sales in July, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association
EVs are already noticably trimming China's oil demand: Just the increase in EVs on the road since last year shaved ~4% off transport fuel demand:

Meet the world's largest all-electric ferry out for delivery in 2025:
It has capacity for 2,100 passengers & 225 cars.
Batteries can store >40MWh & will be 4x larger than any battery installation that has been constructed anywhere in the world for marine transport.
Range will be up to 100 n.m.

De NL gascentrales maken steeds minder draaiuren. In april werd slechts 340 miljoen m3 aardgas gebruikt. De op een na laagste maandwaarde ooit.

In augustus 2021 draaiden de kolencentrales volop. In april 2024 nauwelijks.
This is the largest heat pump in the world (60MW).
It is located in Esbjerg, DK and provides heating for 100,000 people.
The heat pump replaced coal-fired thermal generation using Denmark's electricity which is 2/3 from wind and solar.
In 2022 the media (led by Toyota) freaked out about lithium scarcity, evidenced by prices "going through the roof".
I explained lithium wasn't scarce and it was just production catching up. But that wasn't dramatic enough.
Now look at lithium prices.

.@stevelevine:
"In January, China’s @catl_official, the world’s largest battery manufacturer, slashed the price of its iron-based battery cells 40% below the global industry average. Western battery industry veterans told me at the time that the price had to be a one-off promotion for CATL’s best customers. It was not possible to make money at such prices, they said.
Today, CATL is still advertising the cells at about $56 per kilowatt hour—and it’s become the going rate in China for large lithium-iron-phosphate batteries used in buildings, according to multiple firms that track battery prices, compared with $95/kWh outside China; an electric vehicle battery using LFP would be roughly $10/kWh more. And China’s most efficient battery manufacturers are making a profit on the price, with average costs of $45/kWh, according to @InfoLinkConsult, a Taiwan-based renewable energy research firm.
As they did in January, many Western battery industry hands dismiss the LFP price as reflective of a brutal battery and EV price war in China, and not of the real costs of making the batteries. But they should worry: The LFP business may be evidence that the Chinese battery sector is repeating a phenomenon that has roiled industry after industry—so altering the economics of a product that most Western rivals are unable to compete, and are driven out. Cheaper than nickel-led batteries favored by major non-Chinese carmakers, LFP is the standard in China, used in the majority of Teslas, and is fast becoming more popular in the West."
