@aaren017@besavageee it’s so sad that they promise a quality education just to encourage students to go into the least academically rigorous majors resulting in inequity #ucr150. @besavageee
it’s clear that inequity exists in college athletics. Black male football players are being tracked into less rigorous majors that result in under education and inequity all for the head coach to earn an academic bonus reliant on GSR and APR @besavageee#ucr150
@ynavarro091@besavageee it’s not okay that these student athletes’ academic lives are not being prioritized! additionally their athletic success isn’t even guaranteed! #ucr150@besavageee
although i don’t agree with the NCAA, in the O’Bannon case appeal the ninth circuit was right in stating that students shouldn’t be paid $5,000/year due to the definition of amateurism but that institutions should cover up to the full cost of college #ucr150@besavageee
@aaren017@besavageee yes i totally agree! it seems that at every turn the NCAA fails at protecting or ensuring the student athletes success whether it be in academics or athletics #ucr150@besavageee
the 4-4 transfer rules don’t seem like they were made for the protection of athletes despite what the NCAA argues. The one year gap and the lack of “academic” exception unless the athletic program is discontinued hinders the student athlete. #ucr150@besavageee
@Bubbsbf@besavageee this is such a good point to bring up! fear of losing a scholarship probably motivates players to not report concussions which places the blame on them without looking at how institutions and the NCAA are failing. #ucr150@besavageee
it’s important that the NCAA changes the wording of their Concussion Policy to protect athletes so that the policy doesn’t just require the existence of a plan, but also calls for the implementation of the plan as well. #ucr150@besavageee
@aaren017@besavageee it’s crazy that women are still being treated unfairly in sports despite regulations existing to protect them. It’s time for institutions to take responsibility and stop finding loopholes to treat women as less than #ucr150@besavageee
institutions who can’t meet title IX requirements by maintaining a consistent increase in opportunities for women athletes and therefore cut men’s programs all while blaming title IX instead of taking responsibility are wretched #ucr150@besavageee
@angrodriguez_82@besavageee I completely agree! A 4 year scholarship is more beneficial to student athletes and allows them to do the sport they love as well as receive a quality education instead of feeling like they have to pick and choose! #ucr150
it’s completely unfair for a coach to have an advantage over the life of a student athlete not just through a one year contract but through coersive language and misleading information that forces them into making uninformed choices about signing the NLI #ucr150@besavageee
