It is so intriguing how it is found that college football programs focus on maximizing the athlete role while minimizing the academic role. This especially intriguing due to it being in a college institution. #ucr150@besavageee
@MichelleTabar14@besavageee I completely agree. The NCAA treats students like property to profit off of, rather then people. I am curious what actions can be taken to limit this reoccurring problem?
@yuanfen00536757@besavageee It is interesting the reoccurring loopholes in order to profit off the lives of students. I wonder what can be done to reduce this reoccurring pattern? @besavageee
Conference commissioners, mainly white men, assemble and reconfigure conferences in ways that lead to the most profit. This deals with another equity question when dealing with intercollegiate athletics. #ucr150@besavageee

@Lesly_150 @besavageee These restrictions are a way to control student athletes for themselves. The NCAA says it is to help them adjust to their environment, but is that really the case?
Transfer Rules keep student-athletes from easily transferring to another institution and exploits the athletes. It seems they have this rule to keep them specifically for athletic reasons. #ucr150@besavageee
@fridataviraa@besavageee Your point is very important. The NCAA should additionally provide protection of scholarships when student athletes do get concussions. I was thinking about how athletes are already fighting to maintain scholarships. This must increase unreported concussions.
The author mentioned how many players mask potential signs of a concussion. How could this tie into previous chapters discussing the fear of losing a scholarship? Can athletes lose education opportunities if they are injured? @besavageee#ucr150

@_brissarojas @besavageee I do believe there is a large discrepancy. The reading did address that there is more funding in men sports because there is no women equivalent of football. It would be interesting to look at how funds equate between specific sports for men vs. women. @besavageee
Every year, male athletics receive over $136 million more then female athletics in scholarships. This is still representative of the large discrepancy between men and women sports. #ucr150@besavageee
@kethanhuynh@besavageee You have a very interesting question. I’m curious if hiring agencies are on the brink of no longer maintaining amateurism? The primary concern is just maintaining academic stability for students. @besavageee
The penalty for not following all terms of the NLI can lead to athletic ineligibility. This is problematic because many athletes do not know what all the NLI entails and have no one who can properly interpret the contract. #ucr150@besavageee
@Egarcia150@besavageee@Egarcia150 I have seen majoring clustering in my own college experiences. One institution I attended called geology, “Rocks for Jocks”. I wonder if student athletes are also treated differently by professors to make classes easier? @besavageee
Similarly to other firms, the NCAA makes economic choices based on maximizing profits. This is in turn results in a need for outside regulation to reduce monopolistic control. It functions similarly to the head of a cartel. #ucr50@besavageee
@VanBui23@besavageee It is insane the extent that athletes devote their time on top of academics. I am curious what current or future academic resources are provided to reduce the stress and make school easier. I am curious how this 40 hours compares to other extra curriculars .
When reading the introduction to “Athlete’s Rights and..” I found the discussion of wide spread stress in college interesting. There are many extracurriculars and circumstances that are unfair to students. What distinguishes athletes struggles from any other student? #ucr150
