@TeresaOro007 @besavageee I think it would help if there was a program or policy implemented for college athletes. Specifically for tutoring and extra study time. #ucr150@besavageee
#UCR150@besavageee Racism doesn’t go away when a student plays a sport in college. It’s not fair for a student to not feel safe in an environment that should automatically bring comfort. Coaches need to step it up and find ways to support their students and their academics.
#ucr150@besavageee It’s interesting how college athletes aren’t pushed to be successful in their academics as they are with sports. Don’t they have to obtain a certain GPA in order to keep their scholarship(s)?
#ucr150@besavageee The 4-4 rule restricts student athletes when they transfer. The contract limits their school options and that’s not fair. The NCAA created another way to control the experiences of student athletes
@KaileyG048@besavageee@besavageee#ucr150 I think the NCAA tried to create rules/regulations to try and prevent concussions, but at the same time, they haven’t done a great job at making athletes feel safe enough to report them
@Aroma01301@besavageee#ucr150@besavageee I can understand why college athletes are afraid to report any energy, especially a concussion. They’re at great risk of no longer being able to go out on the field/court. They don’t want to miss out in their dream.
@besavageee#ucr150 It’s common for college athletes experience concussions. Despite the NCAA’s effort to establish rules/laws to prevent it, there’s still room for improvement.
@sfern028 @besavageee There definitely needs to be a change. Saying and actually doing are two different things. If there was genuine care and concern for female athletes, there wouldn’t be such a great difference in pay. #ucr150
Despite Title IX’s effort to create equality in college sports, female athletes still earn less than male athletes. That doesn’t seem equal to me. Female athletes are also underrepresented, so how can we change that? #ucr150@besavageee
Signing an NLI seems complicated. Not being able to negotiate their terms proves the lack of concern for athletes. They’re basically signing something regardless if they have a full understanding or not #ucr150@besavageee
@ggarc158@besavageee Yes, I agree because they’re essentially risking their safety for something that doesn’t show them the same love and dedication. #ucr150@besavageee
@ccass015@besavageee I do think it’s important that students educate themselves on the NCAA. There are so many resources that’ll allow the to do so, such as news articles, textbooks, and past complaints made. #ucr150@besavageee
The NCAA seems to care more for coaches than athletes. They’re taking advantage of the passion these students have for their sports. Using amateurism as a way to profit isn’t right. There are no games without the athletes. They deserve to profit. #ucr150@besavageee
@BSanchez065@besavageee College athletes definitely deserve to be compensated because they’re actually the one’s playing the sport(s). Without them, there would be no game; there would be no profits without them. @besavageee
#ucr150 Taking EDUC 50 introduced me to the NCAA’s purpose and the lack of support college athletes receive(d). They are just now beginning to see some sort of profit for their hard work and talent, but also receiving academic support is just as important. @besavageee
