@EddieComeaux@GlobalSportMtrs The fact that forms of anti blackness are instilled in almost all institutional establishments is so very sad. Those with power act blind to the issues and just let it be. That’s a main issue those with power must take part in the change.
@BSanchez065@besavageee Oh I have to agree that I wasn’t shocked one bit. It seems to be an on going problem that doesn’t have an end. It’s sad how much stereotypes play a role in the athletic and academic accomplishments of the student. #ucr150@besavageee
Racism is still an on going issue especially in college athletics. African American athletes tend to have higher cases of academic misconduct. They are expected to perform well however do not get treated the same and do not get the same resources #ucr150@besavageee
@MichelleTabar14@besavageee I think you’re completely right, students have to sacrifice a lot for their sport. It’s unfair that they give and give yet don’t receive nearly as much in return. #ucr150@besavageee
This weeks reading was very shocking. It is very upsetting that the NCAA clearly doesn’t care about their student athletes. The students constantly have to put their education on the back burner in order to please the NCAA. @besavageee#ucr150
@GarroPoga001@besavageee It baffles me how the entire NCAA system works in order to control the athletes and to benefit from the hard work the student athletes put in. It really sucks that even transferring institutions can be played in the NCAA’s favor. #ucr150@besavageee
When it comes to transferring institutions, student athletes face multiple hurdles. It isn’t as easy as picking a different college picking up and moving on. The NCAA makes the process difficult and always keeps their own best interest as a priority. @besavageee#ucr150
@nina_kobayashi_ @besavageee I think you’re completely right, it’s brushed under the rug. The correct information isn’t being related and therefore concussions aren’t caught on time or taken seriously enough when they are caught. #ucr150@besavageee
It is sad to see how little the NCAA cares about their athletes. Concussions are the most common injury yet not even half are reported. Players continue playing and risk an even more fatal injury by not taking the proper precaution. @besavageee#ucr150
@fridataviraa@besavageee It isn’t fair that the Title IX is being blamed for the cut of programs when in reality the ones to blame are the institutions. It shouldn’t be that hard to give women an equal opportunity, they clearly don’t want to and therefore, they lose their mens team. #ucr150@besavageee
Title IX was introduced to improve the gender inequality that is showcased through college athletics. However, the injustice hasn’t ended, women athletics don’t receive the same attention. Ex. They don’t get the same media coverage. #ucr150@besavageee
@DerekAbdullah01 @kethanhuynh@besavageee I agree with you !! The NLI could benefit the student athlete more if they allowed some sort of felexibilty. However, I also think that’s what they don’t want. The institutions want to remain with all the power. @besavageee#ucr150
At first student athletes are excited about signing days, however they’re not aware the NLI is primarily made to protect and benefit the institution. Although aid and scholarships are provided the athlete is now committed to the institution no matter what. #ucr150@besavageee
@MichelleTabar14@besavageee I definitely agree with you, I believe the organizations main concern is making money that meaning sticking to the idea of amateurism no matter how that might affect the athlete. #ucr150@besavageee
Student athletes put all of their time and effort into their sport as well as their education. Colleges believe that scholarships are enough compensations but between practice and homework the student don’t have time to get a job for their bills. #ucr150@besavageee
@BSanchez065@besavageee I strongly agree with you, athletes put in hard work into trying to be the best not only for themselves but also for the team and the University. Athletes play a huge part in the popularity of a university. Therefore they deserve to be compensated. #ucr150@besavageee
Students athletes do the absolute most to make the university programs look good, however do not receive the compensation they deserve. They feel like their athletic labor is exhausted. #ucr150@besavageee
