In the case of Labour MPs in safe seats who retired at the last minute in late May, in the knowledge they'd get peerages for life - thus allowing Labour HQ to impose favoured candidates without local scrutiny - it's effectively a form of bribery.
@kxstny @PhilipProudfoot @WhosChivato @AnnelieseDodds Why is it ‘so called’ South Sudan?
I mean that’s definitely the country’s name, whatever the rights or wrongs of this MP going there.
@pswhisky@edradourmalt Probably too late, but would be v interested to join this tasting. Have a couple of Ballechin/Edradour on the collection, they’re great!
This election must be the most unpredictable foregone conclusion ever. Like if the hosts automatically qualified for the final of the World Cup and everyone else played for the other spot.
@Samfr I heard one example where after the first day of postal votes being opened sent the Lab SG down to check the following day because the results were ‘interesting’. It’s quite common that indicative results are visible! Even if they shouldn’t be.
@RishiSunak says he is hurt & angry at @reformparty_uk activist using racist language.
How did he think I felt when his top donor Frank Hester said I “made him want to hate all Black women' and I should be shot?
@Samfr I’ve been told by one candidate in a con-LD marginal that the ‘postal votes are going in the right direction’ so they definitely can see the actual votes cast. Even if they’re not meant to. It can change tactics in the final week in tight seats.
@Samfr This is not true. Agents or their appointed reps can watch postal votes being opened; they can see some (not all) of how the votes have been cast; and they can get a good sense of where he postal votes are going in the right direction or not.
Daisy Cooper, "I think you speak for Britain.. So many people ask me the same question.. Why are there so many massive companies raking in billions in profits when ordinary folk can't afford to put food on the table" #BBCQT
"LibDems do not believe we should be taxing ordinary folk during a cost of living crisis.. Big banks have been given a £3 billion tax cut.. We would reverse it.. The windfall tax on oil and gas companies has an enormous loophole in it.. Water companies have taken out loans to pay dividends"
"All of this is unfair.. Big companies should be paying a lot more to pay for our public services"
@jakesagt I remember when Jake posted filth, now it’s YIMBY Bristol housing crusade and it’s just as entertaining, but in a different way! The Greens thinking he’s right wing 😂😂
