My name is Francesca Froio and I am currently college freshman. Through this platform, I am hoping to advocate for cephalopods, specifically octopus, rights!
Pet homelessness is a large issue especially outside of the U.S. More attention worldwide and organizations like the Humane Society should collaborate to shelter homeless pets. #39canimals
Humane Society also has a program with the purpose of ending pet homelessness due to pets being abandoned, and overpopulated due to poor breeding practices. They find dogs homes in shelters, so that they may find a more permanent home and a family later. #39canimals
Mangroves are some of the most productive ecosystems so helping facilitate them is definitely a good solution direction to reverse shark habitat loss. #39canimals
New approaches to fixing the problem of habitat loss for sharks (mangroves) are in the works! Community based ecological mangrove restoration (CBEMR) is gradually, but successfully making mangroves more resilient. https://t.co/xLmt6MA5wy #39canimals
Did you know what close to 50% of all dog pets in the US suffer from separation anxiety when left alone in the house? It ranks third of all other causes of anxiety in dogs. #39canimals
Yes! This list should be shared as much as possible to spread more awareness on the wide range of harmed species being pushed to extinction. #39canimals
The Top 25 list is to list the top 25 most endangered animals in order to gain the government or organizations attentions to certain species so that things can be done about it! #39canimals
Dr.Becca Franks helped me understand how “captive octopuses have been known to eat their own arms"! We need to stop octopus farming before it begins in the U.S and prevent the species from reaching extinction. #WhatIlearnedin39C

Factory farming is detrimental to the surrounding environment. Agricultural runoff and accelerated deforestation/water scarcity are just some of the many adverse impacts of the practice that ultimately circle back to harming cattle. #WhatIlearnedin39C
Shark's have personalities who knew? They also facilitate a wide social network, contradicting the negative stereotype that they are antisocial organisms.

I had no idea oragutans have high capacity and advanced cognition observed through their spacial awareness. Unfortunately, this ability is disrupted by deforestation caused primarily by the palm oil industry #WhatIlearnedin39C
To follow my octopi advocacy campaign outside twitter and explore some of the research behind each tweet visit my portfolio linked below

"The amount of octopi referenced in federally funded research has increased from 34,424 to 47,238 in the last four decades. The momentum of neuroscience shows no slowing down of octopus presence in lab settings, leaving the species defenseless" #39canimals https://t.co/gAZMnSx6At
"Drafts of the three Rs (replacement, refinement, and reduction) adopted from the EU's 2010 Directive, which gave cephalopods the same legal protection as vertebrate animals, have been proposed to lawmakers, but no action has been taken"

“animal” according to the law translates to any dead or live other warm-blooded animal that is intended or can be used in a laboratory setting. Octopi are cold-blooded animals not traditionally used in a laboratory setting, barring them from the legislation." #39canimals
If the U.S. were to implement a panel to review the emotional capacity of octopi, a collaboration with the NMSC would be an effective method for reaching legislative change. An effective method to gain the NMSC’s attention is through organization petitioning. #39canimals
"The U.K.’s Animal Sentience Committee exemplified the potential success of the U.S. forming a scientific panel and achieving the same progress as the Farm Bill amendment for octopi’s legislative rights".

"Methods including 3D tissue culture, non-invasive diagnostic imaging, and the use of stem cells are the most promising research procedures in significantly lowering animal use in scientific laboratories, omitting any procedural harm imposed on octopi" #39canimals
Wow I had no idea how drone technology could be beneficial in animal advocacy! I wonder how these advancements could be applied to octopi conservation!?

Shark Angels is a shark conservation organization dedicated to protected the planets shark populations through many methods, but especially through changing people's opinions on sharks. #39canimals
Despite being in Canada, the Univeristy of Lethbridge has petitioned for the increase of animal protection within research in the US as we lag behind other nations, with minimal efforts made to expand these protections.
