Hidden in a Parisian courtyard is La Maison du Pastel, the world's oldest pastel maker.
With a 300-year-old legacy of making pastels by hand, the shop served clients like Edgar Degas.

Every time I see this perfect scene in SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, I not only weep, but I am desperate to see the camera pull back and reveal Ang Lee and his crew hysterically sobbing too.
Shakespeare's Flowers is finally finished!
The full list of subjects is: columbine/convolvulus, pansies, violets, ragged robin, honeysuckle (woodbine), wild rose (eglantine), dasies and willow. Taken from Hamlet and A Midsummer-night's Dream. The filigree is in gold thread, worked in the early Anglo Saxon/medieval technique of surface couching. I love this technique, it feels like a whisper from another age.
More to come? I thought I might try a different muse ... how about Gainsborough's Flowers?

There are some brilliant examples of fashion illustration in the collection, including this advert that appeared in the Marks & Spencer Magazine, 1932.

i feel very obligated to let all the nerds know that there is a free game like geoguesser where you guess the location of origin and time period for art and historical artifacts. really high level:
هاکنی تا ۸۸ سالگی عمر کرد و تا آخرین لحظه با دستهای لرزون و لاغر از نقاشی کشیدن دست نکشید. حالا به جای اینکه از رفتنش غوصه بخوریم، تا هنوز بهاره به شکوفهها و درختها و سبزیها نگاه کنیم شاید دنیا رو به رنگ اون دیدیم.
