How we laughed at women’s rights in the Middle East. How safe we felt in the west. Free to be educated, work, dress how we wish, vote. Now that veneer of safety has shattered. Case after case in country after country prioritises rehabilitation of men who rape women & girls. And abandon women & girls - no,solace, no justice, no rights.
Now victims will realise there is no point going to police, little point in enduring trial. Women will withdraw from risk. Social life’s curtailed.
And lo Europe became the Middle East.
