@ChrisHowles Just for fun, 2 alternate metrics of missionary success:
- % of miss'ries who received overall positive reviews/annual reports from their national ministry bosses/superiors
- # of missionaries who replaced themselves w/ a nat'l counterpart thu self-demoting (not self-promotion)
@wekesa_amos I've lived 17 yrs in SAmerica, 12 in NA., 9 in Asia & 12 in UG + many trips to EU/UK. So I know of what I say: UG has BEST weather, TOO MUCH natural beauty, incredible nat'l parks & animals, the NILE, hardworking & resilient & warm ppl. Like everywhere, UG also has challenges!
@ApolloBuregyeya Europeans had better boats & guns when the peoples of the world discovered each other, so today Africans live in a world systematically build in the image of Europe. From the worldview in English education to the idea of private property, all are a foreign stamp on Africa's soul.
@esaumccaulley During my 7 yrs of UK-based doctoral research, I had my laptop switched over to UK English. Now my MSWord is default Ugandan English. But I also have to write for American audiences regularly. So don't ask me how to spell anything, I don't have a clue.
@ChrisHowles Just hearing the phrase 'world church' reminds me of and fills me with the fundamental hope and optimism that is my spiritual birthright, a balm after my daily assault of news headlines. Thx 4 sharing and God blessed as you bless students.
@HB__AUG31_FAB@ChrisHowles In short, yes. It has certainly enriched my bent! The integrated physical-spiritual-together worldview of African people, I think, overall more closely resembles Hebraic view, as compared to Western physical-distinct-from-spiritual worldview.
If I was US President & I wanted to win hearts and minds in China, here's what I'd do. ... I'd make a conspicuous effort to complement Chinese people, Chinese values, and Chinese culture. I'd talk about how my Chinese staffers are the smartest and most hardworking people... (1)
I've ever worked with (which honestly is probably true) .... I'd talk about how I'm learning Mandarin in my free time ....
These clips would go viral on Bilibili and TikTok. And they'd probably stay up because it would just be a weird thing to censor
@LondonHatch Let's hope this ban includes 4x4s for new bishops and other non-cash gifts. And maybe am dreaming here, but let's hope the big Born Again Bishops follow suit 😅👍🏼
@drewdyck As long our application can seamlessly move, together under the inspiration of the HS, all the way from "necessary application" out to "untethered application"🤣
@ChrisHowles preaching Genesis here people just intuitively GET the blessing, the promise, the prosperity of the patriarchs. African worldview is wonderfully Hebrew in comparison to my still-pretty-Greek bent, which struggles with the material blessing bestowed on crooked Jacob! Ur thought?
@ChrisHowles I'd argue that "prosperity gospel" of today can be historically traced back to Oral Roberts et al in USA. That false gospel has taken root in Africa, as a distortion of Africa's integrated worldview where spiritual & physical blessing move 2gthr like the covenant Patriarchs. When
