Respected Madam,

On behalf of lakhs of shopkeepers and retailers across India, we sincerely thank you for levying only 5% GST on garments priced below ₹2,500. This step has been widely welcomed.

However, the levy of 18% GST on garments priced above ₹2,500 is a matter of grave concern. Such taxation will not only adversely impact the apparel industry but also the traditional wear, ethnic wear, and bridal apparel markets, which form a significant segment of India’s cultural and economic fabric.

It is important to note that 100% of bridal apparel falls in this category. The additional tax burden will directly affect not just the affluent but also middle-class families, for whom wedding expenses are already substantial. Retailers, small manufacturers, and artisans who depend on this market will also suffer greatly, reducing demand and affecting employment.

In the larger interest of consumers, traditional markets, small businesses, and the overall textile ecosystem, we humbly request the Honourable Council to roll back the 18% GST on garments priced above ₹2,500 and instead consider a lower, uniform rate to ensure a level playing field across the apparel industry.

We trust the Government will safeguard the interests of both consumers and traders while ensuring the continued growth of India’s vibrant garment sector.

अलीकडे सोशल मिडिया आणि बातम्यांमधून अनेक धक्कादायक व्हिडिओ समोर येत आहेत, जिथे काही राजकीय पक्षांचे कार्यकर्ते दुकानदार व त्यांच्या कर्मचार्‍यांना मारहाण करत आहेत, फक्त भाषेच्या कारणावरून.

हो, मी मान्य करतो की महाराष्ट्रात राहून, मुंबईत व्यवसाय करताना मराठी भाषा शिकणे आणि बोलणे गरजेचे आहे. ही आपली संस्कृती आणि इथल्या भूमीचा आदर आहे.

पण याचा अर्थ असा अजिबात होत नाही की कुणालाही दुकानदारांना मारहाण करण्याचा, अपमान करण्याचा, धमकावण्याचा अधिकार आहे.
कोणताही पक्ष किंवा व्यक्ती कायद�� हातात घेऊ शकत नाही.
केवळ दुकानदार एखादी विशिष्ट भाषा बोलत नाहीत म्हणून त्यांच्यावर हल्ले करणे हा सरळ कायद्याचा भंग आहे आणि अत्यंत निषेधार्ह आहे.

FRTWA च्या वतीने आम्ही भाषेच्या नावाखाली दुकानदारांवर हल्ला करणाऱ्या कोणत्याही राजकीय पक्षाचा तीव्र निषेध करतो.
दुकानदार हा कायद्याचे पालन करणारा नागरीक आहे, आणि त्याच्या मनात भीती निर्माण करणारे राजकारण थांबवले गेले पाहिजे.

एक व्यापारी संघटनेचा प्रमुख म्हणून, मला खूप आश्चर्य वाटते की कायदा व सुव्यवस्थेच्या यंत्रणा अजूनही गप्प का आहेत?
ज्या व्हिडिओंमध्ये स्पष्टपणे मारहाण, शिवीगाळ, दमबाजी दिसून येते, त्यावर पोलीस किंवा राज्य सरकारने अजूनही स्वतःहून (suo motu) कारवाई का केली नाही?

महाराष्ट्र शासन गप्प का आहे?
ही कृती फक्त बेकायदेशीर नाही, तर समाजात फूट पाडणारी, भिती पसरवणारी आणि व्यापारी वा���ावरण बिघडवणारी आहे.

FRTWA ची शासनाकडे जोरदार मागणी आहे की:
   •    या प्रकरणात तत्काळ स्वतःहून (suo motu) गुन्हे दाखल करून कठोर कारवाई करावी.
   •    हिंसाचार करणाऱ्यांना स्पष्ट संदेश द्यावा की महाराष्ट्रात अशा प्रकारचं राजकारण खपवून घेतलं जाणार नाही.
   •    दुकानदार व त्यांच्या कर्मचार्‍यांचे संरक्षण करावे, जे राजकीय फायद्यासा��ी बळी पडत आहेत.

जर वेळीच कारवाई झाली नाही, तर चुकीचा पायंडा पडेल आणि निर्दोष दुकानदारांचा बळी जात राहील.

હમણાંના સમયમાં સોશિયલ મીડિયા અને ન્યૂઝ ચેનલો દ્વારા એવા ઘણા ચોંકાવનારા વિડિયો સામે આવ્યા છે, જેમાં કેટલાક રાજકીય પક્ષના કાર્યકરો દ્વારા ભાષાના બહાને દુકાનદારો અને કર્મચારીઓ પર મારપીટ અને અપમાનજનક વર્તન કરવામાં આવી રહ્યું છે.

હું માનું છું કે મહારાષ્ટ્રમાં રહીને, ખાસ કરીને મુંબઈમાં વ્યવસાય કરતા લોકો માટે મરાઠી ભાષા શીખવી અને બોલવી યોગ્ય અને આવશ્યક છે.
આ રાજય અને અહીંના લોકો પ્રત્યેનો આદર દર્શાવવો જરૂરી છે.

પરંતુ, આનો અર્થ એ નથી કે કોઈને પણ દુકાનદારોને ધમકાવવા, થપ્પડ મારવા કે ગાળો આપવાનો અધિકાર મળે.
કોઈ પણ વ્યક્તિ કે પક્ષે કાયદો હાથમાં લેવાનો હક ��થી.

FRTWA તરફથી અમે અવાજ ઉઠાવીએ છીએ અને આ પ્રકારના હિંસાત્મક કૃત્યોનો કડક શબ્દોમાં વિરોધ કરીએ છીએ.
દુકાનદારો શાંત, વ્યવસાયિક અને કાયદાનું પાલન કરનાર નાગરિક છે.
તેમના પર રાજકીય લાભ માટે દહેશત ફેલાવવી સંપૂર્ણપણે નिंदનીય છે.

એક સંસ્થા પ્રમુખ તરીકે હું ખૂબ આશ્ચર્યચકિત છું કે કાયદો અમલમાં મુકનારી સંસ્થાઓ અને પોલીસ અત્યાર સુધી સુમોટો પગલાં કેમ નથી લઈ રહી?
સ્પષ્ટ વિડિયો પુરાવા હોવા છતાં કોઈ ક��ર્યવાહી કેમ નથી?

મહારાષ્ટ્ર સરકાર શાંતીથી જોઈ રહી છે — કેમ?
આવી કાર્યવાહી માત્ર ગેરકાયદેસર જ નહીં પરંતુ શહેરી શાંતિ અને વેપાર માટે હાનિકારક છે.

FRTWA દ્વારા સરકારને અપીલ છે કે તેઓ:
•આ તમામ વિડીયો આધારીત ઘટના ઉપર તરત સુમોટો ગુનો દાખલ કરે.
•આવા તત્વોને સ્પષ્ટ સંદેશ આપે કે ભાષાના નામે મારપીટ સહન કરવામાં نہیں આવશે.
•દુકાનદારો અને કર્મચારીઓનું રક્ષણ સુનિશ્ચિત કરે.

જો સરકારના સ્તરે યોગ્ય પગલાં લેવામાં નહિ આવે તો આવો ખોટો રિવાજ ઉભો થશે અને નિર્દોષ દુકાનદારો તેનો ભોગ બનતા રહેશે.

અમે ન્યાય, સલામતી અને કાયદાની યોગ્ય અમલવારીની માંગ સાથે આ અવાજ ઉઠાવીએ છીએ.

Over Language Issue

Recently, we have seen several disturbing videos circulating on social media and in the news, showing members of a political party physically assaulting shopkeepers and staff under the pretext of language issues.

Let me be clear: Yes, anyone living and doing business in Maharashtra, especially in Mumbai, should learn and respect the Marathi language. It’s a matter of cultural respect and integration.

However, this does not give any political party or individual the right to slap, abuse, or threaten shopkeepers and their staff. No one is above the law. Taking the law into one’s own hands is unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

FRTWA strongly condemns any such acts of violence and intimidation in the name of language. Shopkeepers are law-abiding citizens, and no political motive should be allowed to instill fear in their minds.

As the head of a traders’ association, I am shocked and disappointed that law enforcement agencies have not taken suo motu action against such individuals, despite clear video evidence of physical abuse and threats.

Why is the Maharashtra Government silent? These actions are not just illegal—they are dangerous, divisive, and damaging to the peace and business environment of our city.

We urge the Maharashtra Government to immediately:
•Take strict suo motu action against all those involved in such assaults.
•Send a clear message that violence in the name of language or politics will not be tolerated.
•Protect shopkeepers and retail staff, who are being unfairly targeted for political gain.

If no action is taken, it sets a dangerous precedent—and innocent shopkeepers will continue to suffer.

We demand justice, accountability, and immediate protection for Mumbai’s retail community.

હમણાંના સમયમાં સોશિયલ મીડિયા અને ન્યૂઝ ચેનલો દ્વારા એવા ઘણા ચોંકાવનારા વિડિયો સામે આવ્યા છે, જેમાં કેટલાક રાજકીય પક્ષના ���ાર્યકરો દ્વારા ભાષાના બહાને દુકાનદારો અને કર્મચારીઓ પર મારપીટ અને અપમાનજનક વર્તન કરવામાં આવી રહ્યું છે.

હું માનું છું કે મહારાષ્ટ્રમાં રહીને, ખાસ કરીને મુંબઈમાં વ્યવસાય કરતા લોકો માટે મરાઠી ભાષા શીખવી અને બોલવી યોગ્ય અને આવશ્યક છે.
આ રાજય અને અહીંના લોકો પ્રત્યેનો આદર દર્શાવવો જરૂરી છે.

પરંતુ, આનો અર્થ એ નથી કે કોઈને પણ દુકાનદારોને ધમકાવવા, થપ્પડ મારવા કે ગાળો આપવાનો અધિકાર મળે.
કોઈ ��ણ વ્યક્તિ કે પક્ષે કાયદો હાથમાં લેવાનો હક નથી.

FRTWA તરફથી અમે અવાજ ઉઠાવીએ છીએ અને આ પ્રકારના હિંસાત્મક કૃત્યોનો કડક શબ્દોમાં વિરોધ કરીએ છીએ.
દુકાનદારો શાંત, વ્યવસાયિક અને કાયદાનું પાલન કરનાર નાગરિક છે.
તેમના પર રાજકીય લાભ માટે દહેશત ફેલાવવી સંપૂર્ણપણે નिंदનીય છે.

એક સંસ્થા પ્રમુખ તરીકે હું ખૂબ આશ્ચર્યચકિત છું કે કાયદો અમલમાં મુકનારી સંસ્થાઓ અને પોલીસ અત્યાર સુધી સુમોટો પગલાં કેમ નથી લ��� રહી?
સ્પષ્ટ વિડિયો પુરાવા હોવા છતાં કોઈ કાર્યવાહી કેમ નથી?

મહારાષ્ટ્ર સરકાર શાંતીથી જોઈ રહી છે — કેમ?
આવી કાર્યવાહી માત્ર ગેરકાયદેસર જ નહીં પરંતુ શહેરી શાંતિ અને વેપાર માટે હાનિકારક છે.

FRTWA દ્વારા સરકારને અપીલ છે કે તેઓ:
•આ તમામ વિડીયો આધારીત ઘટના ઉપર તરત સુમોટો ગુનો દાખલ કરે.
•આવા તત્વોને સ્પષ્ટ સંદેશ આપે કે ભાષાના નામે મારપીટ સહન કરવામાં نہیں આવશે.
•દુકાનદારો અને કર્મચારીઓનું રક્ષણ સ��નિશ્ચિત કરે.

अलीकडे सोशल मिडिया आणि बातम्यांमधून अनेक धक्कादाय��� व्हिडिओ समोर येत आहेत, जिथे काही राजकीय पक्षांचे कार्यकर्ते दुकानदार व त्यांच्या कर्मचार्‍यांना मारहाण करत आहेत, फक्त भाषेच्या कारणावरून.

हो, मी मान्य करतो की महाराष्ट्रात राहून, मुंबईत व्यवसाय करताना मराठी भाषा शिकणे आणि बोलणे गरजेचे आहे. ही आपली संस्कृती आणि इथल्या भूमीचा आदर आहे.

पण याचा अर्थ असा अजिबात होत नाही की कुणालाही दुकानदारांना मारहाण करण्याचा, अपमान करण्याचा, धमकावण्याचा अधिकार आहे.
कोणताही पक्ष किंवा व्यक्ती कायदा हातात घेऊ शकत नाही.
केवळ दुकानदार एखादी विशिष्ट भाषा बोलत नाहीत म्हणून त्यांच्यावर हल्ले करणे हा सरळ कायद्याचा भंग आहे आणि अत्यंत निषेधार्ह आहे.

FRTWA च्या वतीने आम्ही भाषेच्या नावाखाली दुकानदा���ांवर हल्ला करणाऱ्या कोणत्याही राजकीय पक्षाचा तीव्र निषेध करतो.
दुकानदार हा कायद्याचे पालन करणारा नागरीक आहे, आणि त्याच्या मनात भीती निर्माण करणारे राजकारण थांबवले गेले पाहिजे.

एक व्यापारी संघटनेचा प्रमुख म्हणून, मला खूप आश्चर्य वाटते की कायदा व सुव्यवस्थेच्या यंत्रणा अजूनही गप्प का आहेत?
ज्या व्हिडिओंमध्ये स्पष्टपणे मारहाण, शिवीगाळ, दमबाजी दिसून येते, त्यावर पोलीस किंवा राज्य सर��ारने अजूनही स्वतःहून (suo motu) कारवाई का केली नाही?

महाराष्ट्र शासन गप्प का आहे?
ही कृती फक्त बेकायदेशीर नाही, तर समाजात फूट पाडणारी, भिती पसरवणारी आणि व्यापारी वातावरण बिघडवणारी आहे.

FRTWA ची शासनाकडे जोरदार मागणी आहे की:
•या प्रकरणात तत्काळ स्वतःहून (suo motu) गुन्हे दाखल करून कठोर कारवाई करावी.
•हिंसाचार करणाऱ्यांना स्पष्ट संदेश द्यावा की महाराष्ट्रात अशा प्रकारचं राजकारण खपवून घेतलं जाणार ना���ी.
•दुकानदार व त्यांच्या कर्मचार्‍यांचे संरक्षण करावे, जे राजकीय फायद्यासाठी बळी पडत आहेत.

जर वेळीच कारवाई झाली नाही, तर चुकीचा पायंडा पडेल आणि निर्दोष दुकानदारांचा बळी जात राहील.

आम्ही न्याय, सुरक्षा आणि कायद्याची अंमलबजावणी यासाठी ठामपणे आवाज उठवत राहू.

Over Language Issue

Recently, we have seen several disturbing videos circulating on social media and in the news, showing members of a political party physically assaulting shopkeepers and staff under the pretext of language issues.

Let me be clear: Yes, anyone living and doing business in Maharashtra, especially in Mumbai, should learn and respect the Marathi language. It’s a matter of cultural respect and integration.

However, this does not give any political party or individual the right to slap, abuse, or threaten shopkeepers and their staff. No one is above the law. Taking the law into one’s own hands is unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

FRTWA strongly condemns any such acts of violence and intimidation in the name of language. Shopkeepers are law-abiding citizens, and no political motive should be allowed to instill fear in their minds.

As the head of a traders’ association, I am shocked and disappointed that law enforcement agencies have not taken suo motu action against such individuals, despite clear video evidence of physical abuse and threats.

Why is the Maharashtra Government silent? These actions are not just illegal—they are dangerous, divisive, and damaging to the peace and business environment of our city.

We urge the Maharashtra Government to immediately:
•Take strict suo motu action against all those involved in such assaults.
•Send a clear message that violence in the name of language or politics will not be tolerated.
•Protect shopkeepers and retail staff, who are being unfairly targeted for political gain.

If no action is taken, it sets a dangerous precedent—and innocent shopkeepers will continue to suffer.

We demand justice, accountability, and immediate protection for Mumbai’s retail community.
