The IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI) has been crucial in addressing climate change and natural disasters. Since 2011, IDDRSI has made significant progress, including mobilising over 90% of resources for member-state projects in both mainland and cross-border areas.
Honoured to open the 17th IDDRSI Steering Committee meeting in Mombasa. Wishing all delegates successful deliberations as we continue to strengthen resilience for sustainable development in our region.

This morning in Mombasa, I convened a meeting with IGAD senior management to review the Mid-Term findings of the #IGAD Regional Strategy 2021-2025 and validate IGAD’s Vision 2050. Despite challenges, this gathering underscores our commitment to unity and collaboration for a brighter future and regional stability.

Had a meeting with @MuyangwaUSAID and David Gosney, alongside a delegation from @USAIDEastAfrica, where we signed an agreement to strengthen USAID-IGAD partnership. We had extensive discussions on the current peace and Humanitarian Assistance in the region. USAID is a vital partner of IGAD, and we look forward to deepening our collaboration to foster Regional Stability humanitarian support in the region.

Joined the Ministers of Finance at the 21st Horn of Africa Initiative forum in Nairobi, Kenya, at the sidelines of #AfDBAM2024.

This morning, I opened a Gender responsive communication training for IGAD Communication staff. Media and communication wield immense power to perpetuate gender inequalities or challenge and transform them. IGAD is committed to leveraging this power, fostering collaboration to ensure gender equality and women’s empowerment across all sectors in our region.

Convened the High-Level Ministerial meeting on cross-border cooperation for health security focusing on Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia alongside Ministers and Representatives of these countries.
Our collective efforts aim to fortify lives within the #IGAD region. Enhancing trade and economic empowerment through the ONE HEALTH approach will pave the way for improved health security. We appreciate our partners unwavering support through these projects.

Opened the IGAD Eminent Persons meeting today in Addis Ababa alongside H.E. Gideon Timotheus, Minister of @MOJEthiopia. Humbled to be in the presence of our wise council of elders and eminent personalities from across the region. Proud to reaffirm that IGAD is committed to the "African Solutions for African Problems" approach, and we intend to use this platform to share experiences, collaborate, and provide a voice for the voiceless, with the aim of creating a stable and prosperous region.

This morning, I opened a Trainers of Trainers workshop at IGAD, delving into various forms of harassment and the IGAD Anti-Sexual Harassment Policy. Emphasized the importance of everyone feeling valued and safe at work, in addition to possessing the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure a respectful environment for all. IGAD remains firmly committed to cultivating a workplace culture that champions respect, safety, and inclusivity for all its staff and constituents.
