Democracy only works if there are strong checks and balances to temper the excesses and smoothen the edges of popular sovereignty. That’s why the Founders saw the Roman Republic and post Glorious Revolution England as models but Athenian democracy as a warning

No. High speed rail is not feasible in the U.S. outside of certain regions. Oh and the one thing those regions all have in common is they have very Byzantine permitting processes and restrictive land use regulations that make it very expensive and time consuming to build

We’re the only first world nation to use primaries. Everyone else uses central committees or conventions. The closest nation to us is the UK, but even then candidates have to be screened and approved by the party before being allowed to be a potential candidate.
