Today I've asked Starlink/X CEO Elon Musk to activate Starlink Direct-to-Cell and Google CEO Sundar Pichai to expand Satellite SOS for Iran during the ongoing internet blackouts and protests.

Many people argue that Iranians don't have modern phones capable of using these satellite technologies. This claim is demonstrably false.
I analyzed our VPN app data (ArgoVPN) from December 2025 in Iran. The results are clear:
• 15% of Iranian users already have Starlink-compatible devices (over 1 million installs in December alone)
• The top 3 most popular devices in Iran are ALL Starlink-compatible: Samsung Galaxy A32, A51, and A54x
• These are mid-range, affordable devices - not expensive flagships
Here's what people miss about Starlink Direct-to-Cell:
It requires ZERO special hardware. No satellite dish. No special antenna. Any LTE phone from the last ~4 years works. The satellites act as cell towers in space, and phones connect automatically when there's no cellular signal.
The technology is ready. The phones are already in people's hands. With 90 million people in Iran, the potential reach is enormous.
The main barrier isn't device availability - it's deployment and carrier agreements.
The Iranian people are fighting for the very freedoms America was built upon. This is an opportunity for American tech leadership to make a tangible difference - not just in saving lives during emergencies, but in supporting the fundamental human right to free communication.
@elonmusk: Please fully activate Starlink Direct-to-Cell over Iran NOW.
@SundarPichai: Please expand Google Satellite SOS to Iran.
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸@realDonaldTrump@SecRubio: This is a historic opportunity - using American innovation to support freedom without troops or billions in aid. Just technology that's already built. Help the Iranian people break through censorship and communicate with the world.

With @xychelsea in @BusinessInsider: "It's still worth building NymVPN to show there's another way... and if enough people want privacy, then we can open up larger spaces for new kinds of internet infrastructure, which can help solve these larger civilizational issues that we're facing."

The fundamental paradox of a backdoor in encryption is you cannot control who will use it.
It appears China has been using US wiretapping backdoors all along.
👏🏻 Announcing the first ever pre-release of #NymVPN on the #NYM mainnet for Ubuntu and MacOS!

Amidst all these calls from many on the left for Ukraine to capitulate, it’s fascinating to learn that Subcomandante Marcos, an icon of the international left in the 1990s–2000s, urged to support the Ukrainians’ resistance to the Russian invasion (also financially), while…
Nym v1.1.2 is now out: performance and stability improvements, as well as a feature called "node families". This keeps honest whales from accidentally constructing fullpaths through the network.
It's also our first zk-nyms demonstrator of Coconut credentials. More soon!
@phohaidang@nymproject We are still improving the TypeScript SDK, it can best be described as "neonatal" at present. But it's getting better quickly. Three weeks ago very little of what you can see there was possible.
@phohaidang@nymproject the chat demo is not great as a chat system - but I think it's really interesting to demonstrate that you can now build mixnet privacy apps from right inside a browser window. Quick JS/TS app development, no proxy annoyance!
