We're excited to share that Pro Instructor Joel Chimelis has joined the Altamonte Baseball Academy!
Coach Chimelis brings more than 37 years of professional baseball experience as both a player and coach. He previously served as a hitting coach in the Houston Astros organization, working with current MLB standouts including Alex Bregman, and also held coaching roles within the Angels, Mets and Nationals organizations.
Most recently, Coach Chimelis was the Hitting Coach for the Rocket City Trash Pandas in the Los Angeles Angels organization. His experience also includes coaching at the Triple-A level with the Syracuse Mets and Salt Lake Bees, as well as helping lead the Quad Cities River Bandits to the 2013 Midwest League Championship.
Drafted twice—first by the Atlanta Braves and later by the Oakland A’s—Coach Chimelis signed out of the University of Texas, where he played shortstop under legendary Longhorns coach Cliff Gustafson. He enjoyed a 15-year professional playing career, including five seasons at the Triple-A level, and competed internationally in Mexico, China and Korea.
We’re proud to bring his professional experience and passion for player development to the #ABA. 🔥⚾ #WhereYouTrainMatters #InstructorSpotlight (Courtesy of Macks Mets)
