I agree a human zygote is a human being but is it yet in any way a person, a being with morally relevant characteristics? It's a potential person, therefore not yet an actual person.

I chose abortion & animal rights as topics for the applied ethics chapter of #HowToBeGood, an intro to ethics and being ethical. Along with euthanasia they are often taught together as rights to life and death.

@NathanNobis @Docstockk Singer's human/person distinction simplifies the abortion issue. It shortcuts pro life and pro choice, making it all about the personhood moral relevance of the fetus at x age as compared with that of the mother.

Factoring personhood kind of makes animal rights more complex.

I was influenced by Singer's distinction between human and person, moral relevance pertaining to personhood not species membership.
