@TomH_Analyst @ACJSissons@heatpolicyrich@AbigailDombey Much more solar in the SW. Solar helps with heat pumps - free hot water in the summer and a bit cheaper heating in winter.
Also warmer temperatures mean the HPs work more efficiently.
@Dunfarmin1987 @energystatsuk@OctopusEnergy@davejones79 I joined the evening before. The reason they are so low is that wholesale prices have dropped significantly because of warm weather, strong winds and full gas storage and then the EPG guarantee price reduction is then applied.
@Adam_Grant_Bell I don't know how many it applies to but there will be some who are not on benefits and don't pay tax bc they have savings over £16k. #s who are economically inactive but not unemployed has increased significantly partly bc of NHS backlogs.
@TorstenBell Clearly big differences but how much of the difference is driven by sizes of HH?
If there was an allowance per person it might mitigate some of the problem and would encourage higher housing density.
Coupled with energy saving for low income HH might work.
@TorstenBell Great article.
Even after U-turning on most/all of the tax cuts, and making significant spending cuts, may they need to focus the EPG on lowest income households?
@ChrisGiles_@TorstenBell I know they won't be evenly distributed but that is 5,500 per Parliamentary constituency, probably swing voters too. Then you add renters impacted by pass through from landlords (bc this will be the excuse for increasing rents).
Might that be reason enough to tighten fiscally?
@heatpolicyrich Agree entirely, two other factors in heat pumps favour -
Massive amount of RE coming which will lead to low cost electricity and curtailment avoidance. HP will be ideal for this even if just for HW tanks.
And if insulation get better then lower flow temperatures permitted.
@BergAslak Storage in the Netherlands is also great. Whilst storage is only half of German's the pop is only 1/5th positive for European energy security.
@DrSimEvans@MartinSLewis And these are often the big electricity users in households. The consumption per cycle is often available on the documentation that the appliance came with.
