Something I told 14 yo: You have to be able to throw stuff away to do great work. You never get so good that you get everything right the first time. You have to be able to cut.
🇺🇸 Bill Gates says AI is "1,000x bigger" than nuclear:
"It’s like when nuclear came along: is it nuclear weapons or is it nuclear energy?
This is a thousand times bigger, and has both the negative aspect and the positive coexisting in the same technology."
Anyone else somewhat perturbed at the thought of what dear old Bill might be cooking up with AI? 🤣

Bill Gates says he's staking whatever reputation he has on AI being the one technology that truly breaks from history
"Anyone who analogizes AI as a technology to other technologies is missing that this time is different. And saying something is different, there's a very high bar for that."
"But I'm staking whatever reputation I have saying this time is different, that something that exceeds human cognition, not just in one area like farming or mathematics, but across the board, and then in a few years' time will be coupled with fairly low-cost, quite capable humanoid robotics."
"That is a more profound change to our economy and jobs than anything in my lifetime by a dramatic amount."
"And so the past is kind of there to fool you if you think this technology is similar to other ones, some of which I had the privilege to be involved with, the microprocessor, personal computer, internet."
"And even though you have to be careful with those a bit, overwhelmingly those were good technologies, and overwhelmingly that led to net job creation."
Wish I had AI when I was crunching numbers or blue-booking. It would have saved many all nighters.
But the younger generation today will have to find challenges elsewhere to keep their minds sharp.
Just like calculators dulled mental maths, Google Maps took away our sense of direction, and rifles ended swashbuckling, AI might would lead to cognitive decline.
Tech giveth, tech taketh.
Or, we just embrace it, along with neural link implants.
Implication for the portfolio is that AI and biotech will be completely investments. Implication for society is that it’s gonna exacerbate inequality.
