I've caught a lot of people off guard / surprised with this fact about me:

I am networking to make FRIENDS when I am not on the clock.

Of course, in SF, that doesn't make sense to most -- especially for those in tech w/me. However, I see it as an opportunity to find a community.

A community made up of the most exacerbated archetypes and anomlies, that could be the catalyst for amazing ideas, learning moments, and conversations.

So yes, if you're using ambition as an excuse to play a game of ask for forgiveness not permission -- I will be kind, but not nice.

my startup is taking off

started only 3 weeks ago

hit $1 million MRR and raised $15m within the first week

hired a team of 50

then a few days later, I realized I could replace all my employees with Claude Fable 5

I let them all go just a week after hiring them

Now I'm realizing tokens are expensive and plan to hire back 30 of the original people (at a 20% salary cut since I don't need them that bad)

I think we mostly agree now, but your clarification is quite different than what the original claim conveys

“Most advice won’t map exactly, so don’t follow it blindly” is reasonable...

...However, the original post said all advice is worthless and that the only advice worth your time is trying things yourself. I responded to that stronger claim (not to “use discernment”) which was already my point

I also never suggested chasing advice for every problem or theorizing instead of building. The question I’m thinking through is "if customer/mentor/whatever conversations are also noisy, contextual input, why are they inherently useful while other experienced perspectives are supposedly worthless?"

In both cases, the founder’s job is to extract a hypothesis, test it, and discard what does not survive contact with reality -- I think you should explore socratic logic, it aligns very well with the aforementioned and perhaps with you

So yes: build, talk to customers, and move quickly...

...but “this will not prescribe perfectly to me/my problems” is not the same as “this has no value to me”

Also, this is not an attack on you just testing the claim here (more socratic /socratic adjacent logic)

Your clarification is a much better argument than the original post -- which may be why we suddenly appear to agree...
