@ninjanikrulz@Monetarius@lamphieryeg Have u any clue why they bought it? Here's a hint - having already killed 3 pipelines and with TMX near death b/c of (yet another) activist Lib judge, Trudeau realized if he didn't do something AB would explode. Now u think we should thank him?
@jengerson@guyjbreton Trudeau govt had already killed the other 3-Northern Gateway (tanker ban) Keystone XL (Trump aprvd it on 1st day of his 1st term but Trudeau did nothing) & Energy East (to placate ecofreaks in QC). He doesn't buy TMX at that point & we'd already be 7 years into the Republic of AB
@Pagmenzies It was the least they could do - they'd already killed 3 others (Northern Gateway, Keystone XL & Energy East). If they killed TMX, AB would prob already have left.
@Honickman What about claiming "Alber-iginal Title" to all lands historically occupied - however fleetingly or dubiously - by Albertans? Seems to be the law in Canada.
@djbip1986@jengerson Are you suggesting it would be harder for a self-governing Alberta to ship oil to tidewater thru the US than it has been thru Canada?
@KenBoessenkool KM builds TMX if FCA in Tsleil-Waututh Nation v CA follows SCC in Ktunaxa Nation v BC. FCA in Tsleil-Waututh Nation doesn't even cite SCC & AG Wilson Raybold won't appeal it b/c "reconciliation". Trudeau fires her then buys TMX b/c Libs already killed Keystone XL & Energy East.
@JasonGregor It should be obvious this is all about VGK getting a bone like a draft pick if and when someone hires Cassidy. Whatever contractual rights VGK has to "deny permission" for other teams to talk to Cassidy will soon end, so VGK is making hay while the sun shines.
@boehmerB Perhaps he's worried that, at some point, it will be pointed out there was no consultation with FN WRT his petition and will invite Justice Leonard to weigh in.
@ChrisBataluk@dstaples It is a safe assumption his employment contract had a "golden parachute" i.e. if VGK fires him, he gets a severance payment subject to terms, one of which is "don't coach in NHL for a year". If he breaches the term, he doesn't get the severance.
@HockeyFan2323 An injunction is a court order. Breaching a court order is contempt of court. Contempt of court is a quasi- (or in some cases an actual) criminal act. Police go to people's homes to arrest them for crimes. Seems goofy, I know, but it's your fever dream, not mine.
@HockeyFan2323 I look forward to your citation of a case where someone was jailed for contempt because they breached a personal services employment contract. And how do you think the NHL would react if VGK, having fired Cassidy, tried to get him thrown in jail?
@HockeyFan2323 Contracts aren't "violated" - they're "breached". Courts deal with virtually all breaches by awarding monetary damages, not by issuing injunctions (esp. against persons who weren't a party to the contract). "Inducing breach" is a tort which also results in $ damages.
@HockeyFan2323 Addendum: avoiding being sued for "inducing breach" is why Kings/Oilers/Leafs ask VGK for permission and why VGK will grant it if Kings/Oilers/Leafs throw VGK a bone.
@HockeyFan2323 What amount is VGK entitled to over and above the $4.5M to Cassidy? And how does a court "nullify" a new contract - surround Cassidy's house so he can't leave to go to practice? (hint: it can't - it can only award $ to VGK if VGK can prove new team "induced breach".
@HockeyFan2323 Well, it's been 40 years but pretty sure I'm still current. Is there some new ability of employers who fire employees to enforce non-compete covenants I'm not aware of?
@dstaples@revingev@EdmOilerlytics@OilersFanaticYT It's been reported he's getting $4.5M to do nothing. Dunno about you, but I'd need quite a bit more than $4.5M to stop doing nothing and begin to do something.
@HockeyFan2323@revingev@EdmOilerlytics@OilersFanaticYT And how do you think the lawsuit will end? Here's a hint - the court will tell VGK they win and no longer have to pay Cassidy $4.5M & Cassidy will head back to Kings/Oilers/Leafs practice laughing b/c Kings/Oilers/Leafs are paying him $5M to coach.
