Canadian innovators are tackling global health challenges every day. Thank you to @ResultsCda and @CEPIvaccines for bringing us together to meet some of the researchers and scientists leading that work. Together, we are building a healthier, more resilient future globally.
Great to join @ResultsCda Science Fair on the Hill and see firsthand how Canadian innovation is helping tackle global health challenges around the world.
From groundbreaking research to real-world solutions, Canadian scientists, researchers, and NGOs are making a difference...
When simulation becomes the norm, it weakens the human capacity for discernment. As a result, our social bonds close in upon themselves, forming self-referential circuits that no longer expose us to reality. We thus come to live within bubbles, impermeable to one another. Feeling threatened by anyone who is different, we grow unaccustomed to encounter and dialogue. In this way, polarization, conflict, fear and violence spread. What is at stake is not merely the risk of error, but a transformation in our very relationship with truth.
Remember when they called us overly sensitive snowflakes?
It was handled as it should have been: quickly and calmly, just like if you messed up someone's name or made a minor mistakes vis a vis convention rules.
Congratulations to @avilewis for becoming the new leader of the New Democratic Party (@NDP) after an exciting leadership race! While the party aims to rebuild, we hope that his new leadership and approach include continued and robust support for Canadian international assistance 🇨🇦
We wish him the best of luck and look forward to working with Avi and the NDP on efforts to end extreme poverty 🌎 #cdnpoli
My colleague @MikeLakeMP recently hosted an informative lunch-and-learn with @FightHungerAAH, and @ResultsCda.
The focus was on life-saving interventions that address child and maternal malnutrition where the needs are the greatest.
As Shadow Minister for International Development, it was insightful to hear from those working on the ground who are delivering solutions for those in need.

The Global Cooperation Caucus, which I Co-Chair, is a multi-party, non-partisan caucus composed of parliamentarians working together to learn, take action and lead in Canada's fight to end extreme poverty around the world.
As Shadow Minister of International Development, it is my responsibility to stay informed on the work non-government organizations are doing with the monies the federal government has committed to them.
Thank you Luc and Maxwell for the informative presentation on health and nutrition challenges facing communities in Zambia and Canada's ability to mobilize resources to address child deaths in that region.

We were pleasantly surprised yesterday when MP @StephanieKusie mentioned us in a House of Commons debate, highlighting the continued lifesaving impact of strategic investments in international assistance, such as the Muskoka Initiative. We were so happy to have you join us in Kenya in 2018, thank you!
Investing in global heath and prosperity is just that: an investment in OUR future, one where everyone, including Canada, has a chance to thrive 🌍

We join 20+ organizations concerned with Canada’s announcement in Johannesburg today of a 16% cut from our previous pledge to the @GlobalFund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. This is a painful setback at a time when global stability, Canadian prosperity, and millions of lives hang in the balance 🌎
With this decision, @MarkJCarney is signaling a retreat from decades of leadership in the fight against deadly infectious diseases when what we need most is forward-looking investment that benefits Canada and the world.

Today is the first-ever World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day, and we’re closer than ever to making this a reality ✅
Cervical cancer is almost entirely preventable, yet inequitable access to services means women in low-income countries continue to face the highest risks, resulting in 90% of global cervical cancer deaths 🤯 Eliminating cervical cancer requires a fully funded ecosystem: vaccination, screening, and treatment.
This year, Canada showed real leadership with a strong pledge to @gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, helping accelerate access to the HPV vaccine, which protects against the human papillomavirus, the primary cause of cervical cancer.
👉 But vaccines alone aren’t enough.
@UNITAID is scaling affordable screening and treatment, reaching 1.6 million women so far. Their work has lowered HPV test prices and helped integrate screening and treatment technologies adapted for resource-limited settings into national programs, bringing lifesaving care closer to women.
And with women living with HIV being 5x more likely to develop cervical cancer, The @GlobalFund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria remains an essential pillar. Its close partnership with Gavi, and @WHO's Cervical Cancer Elimination Initiative ensures that prevention, testing, and treatment are delivered together. The only strategy proven to work.
If Canada is serious about eliminating cervical cancer, its support can’t stop with vaccines. Will Canada show the same leadership for the Global Fund?
Elimination by 2030 is within reach, but only with sustained investment across the whole system. Let’s make it happen.

At the #G7 foreign ministers’ meeting, Minister @AnitaAnandMP spoke proudly about Canada's aid spending and leadership 🌍 We agree, this is something to be proud of! However, as @neilrmoss reports in @TheHillTimes, these statements come hot on the heels of recent cuts to Canadian aid at a time when the need for peace, global stability, and saving lives is ever-increasing 🫤
Canada must walk the talk and do the right and smart thing by continuing to be a leader in international assistance. We can start with @MarkJCarney announcing a strong commitment to the @GlobalFund at the Replenishment Summit in only 7 days in Johannesburg 🇿🇦
We ARE a global leader in investments that benefit the world and Canadians. Others look to us and we must live up to this reputation and invest in a better world for all.

As we await tomorrow's #Budget2025, we join @DGlenwright from @SaveChildrenCan in urging the government and people in Canada to support the protection of our international assistance budget.
With the current state of the world, hundreds of millions of people need ‒ and will need ‒ urgent humanitarian aid.
Not to mention the continuing and crucial need to invest in disease prevention, nutrition, and education to build a more stable, secure world. One where Canada can build new allies and trade partners, prevent deadly pandemics from reaching our shores, and avoid global economic turmoil.
What's best for all is best for us. We hope to see zero cuts to Official Development Assistance tomorrow.

At the @HIVlegal event yesterday hosted by MP and Parliamentary Secretary @Rob_Oliphant in support of the @GlobalFund, we heard from incredible speakers from all over the world! Take a look at some of the highlights👀
MP Oliphant spoke on how aid is not charity, but an investment in the wellbeing of our world 🌍 which Canada benefits from. If we don't eradicate the world's deadliest infectious diseases ✨everywhere✨ no one is safe anywhere. "The Global Fund is the most important investment we make in global health. It has changed the world."
ED of Alliance for Public Health Dr. @AndriyKlepikov was here from Ukraine 🇺🇦 and spoke on infectious diseases on the frontlines of the war and shared this incredible and moving video on the health efforts there supported by the Global Fund: https://t.co/WPa9UUEnBG
LGBTQI+ community leader from Côte d’Ivoire 🇨🇮 @CarlosIdibouo was also in town and spoke passionately about the HIV epidemic in that region and the fact that funding the Global Fund is about supporting human rights and dignity.
Mikhail Golichenko, lawyer from the HIV Legal Network (Toronto 🇨🇦), spoke on global health as a justice issue. Communities, such as drug users, are often left out of health efforts and this is a denial of their human rights.
Scott Boule from the Global Fund (Geneva 🇨🇭) rounded up the event with real success stories where lives were saved, life expectancies increased and countries strengthened their health systems. He also shared this amazing video on the 70 (million) reasons to support the Fund: https://t.co/MFIVwZhIeQ
Thank you to our hosts and for all your important work!
