TOKEN2049 Singapore 2026 — A Few Takeaways from the Week 🇸🇬
TOKEN2049 returned to Marina Bay Sands on 7–8 October, bringing together one of the largest gatherings in the global crypto and Web3 industry.
According to the organisers, this year’s event was expected to bring together:
• 25,000+ attendees
• 7,000+ companies
• 300+ speakers
• 500+ exhibitors
• 1,000+ side events across TOKEN2049 Week
The scale is impressive. But beyond the crowds, big names and packed schedules, a few things are worth reflecting on.
1️⃣ Institutional finance is becoming a bigger part of the conversation.
One of the most interesting aspects of this year’s programme was the participation of established financial institutions.
Leaders from Franklin Templeton, Nasdaq, and other major financial organisations joined discussions alongside crypto-native companies on tokenisation, institutional liquidity and on-chain settlement.
This doesn’t mean traditional finance has suddenly moved on-chain.
But the conversations are becoming more practical.
How can tokenised assets work within existing financial systems? What needs to change in settlement, custody, compliance and market structure?
These are questions worth paying attention to.
2️⃣ Stablecoins are increasingly being discussed as payment infrastructure.
Stablecoin payments were a prominent topic, including a main-stage discussion involving World Liberty Financial and Mesh.
What interests me most isn’t the number of stablecoins entering the market.
It’s whether they can make cross-border payments, merchant settlement and everyday financial operations genuinely easier.
A faster transfer is useful. But a payment solution also needs reliable settlement, compliance, reconciliation and a good user experience.
That’s where the real work begins.
3️⃣ AI and crypto are finding more reasons to talk to each other.
AI agents, autonomous transactions and the intersection of AI and blockchain featured throughout the programme.
One session was even titled “Agents + Crypto: What’s Real & What’s Cope?”
It’s a fair question.
There’s plenty of excitement around AI agents using blockchain-based payments and financial services. But we’re still early in understanding which applications genuinely need decentralised infrastructure.
The technology is interesting. The business case matters more.
4️⃣ Beyond the main stage, the smaller conversations matter.
TOKEN2049 Week had already taken over much of Singapore before the main conference began.
There were technical discussions, founder gatherings, investor meetings and countless side events happening across the city.
One event that particularly caught my attention was IBM × Optimism’s “Onchain at Scale” on 6 October.
It reflects a question the industry increasingly needs to answer:
How do you take something from a promising concept to a product that can actually be distributed, governed, secured and operated at scale?
To me, this is one of the more interesting changes in the conversation.
💭 A final thought
Crypto is still a noisy industry. There’s no shortage of speculation, ambitious predictions or projects promising to change everything.
And not every new partnership, announcement or pilot will turn into a successful business.
But there’s also a lot of serious work happening behind the scenes.
People are discussing how to build better financial infrastructure, how to connect with existing institutions, and how to make these technologies useful beyond the crypto community.
For markets like Australia, the next challenge is making that innovation work within local regulatory, commercial and customer expectations.
Perhaps that’s what I find most encouraging.
Not that every idea will succeed, but that more of the conversation is moving towards the difficult, practical questions.
There’s still a long way to go.
And that’s exactly why it’s worth paying attention.

People are often afraid to make mistakes because they don’t want to come across as stupid. Yet no one has succeeded without making mistakes. Don’t worry about what others think. You are not succeeding if you are not making mistakes.
successful people focus on what they can control.
- work ethic
- actions
- the things they say
- the habits they develop
unsuccessful people focus on what they can’t control.
- other people’s opinions
- then thoughts
- the actions of other people
- obstacles
If you want to succeed, stay in shape. If you lose health, nothing else matters. No matter how busy you are, make time to exercise. Every day. Start. Today.
I have no problem cutting ties with people who’ve done me wrong. Especially people I trusted? Bitch those are the easiest ones to cut off because you know that the faster you do so, the faster you can free yourself from the toxicity 😌
