Chaos broke out at the BIA last night following the controversial takeover of the on-arrival visa issuance process at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by an Indian company. This company has been charging an extra $25, whereas the Immigration and Emigration Department had been managing the process smoothly for several years.

Sri Lanka has decided to increase the Value Added Tax (VAT), this time by 3%, from 15% to 18%. Against this backdrop, it's worth listening to this clip from the hit TV show "The West Wing".

This is Senator Arnold Vinick, a fictional U.S. Senator, during a presidential debate, explaining how the West urges countries like ours to raise taxes to generate more revenue to repay the loans we've taken, resulting in countries like ours being trapped in an endless cycle of debt.
