DAILY SITUATION RECAP:
Situational Awareness LP sells its public equity holdings to Citadel. Leopold Aschenbrenner’s famous hedge fund rose over 2,200% since inception and 439% in the first half of the year. In the last month, SALP’s highly leveraged positions fell substantially due to declines in memory stocks, and yesterday SALP was forced to sell most or all of its $16B in equity holdings to Ken Griffin’s Citadel. It still holds large positions in private markets, like a rumored $5B stake in Anthropic, and is raising more capital.
Thinking Machines releases Inkling-Small, an open-weights model with 276B parameters (12B active) with native multimodality and a 1M token context window. It performs similarly to the larger version of Inkling, and is available to be fine-tuned on Tinker.
OpenAI cuts the prices of GPT-5.6 Terra and Luna. Terra now costs $2/$12 (20% less) and Luna costs $0.20/$1.20 (80% less) per million input/output tokens. Sol prices remain the same at $5/$30. This makes Luna highly competitive with cheap open-source models.
Google releases the Gemini Robotics 2 model family: Gemini Robotics 2, a vision-language-action model that can control humanoids and other bi-arm robots; Gemini Robotics ER 2, an embodied reasoning model, and Gemini Robotics On-Device 2, a smaller model optimized to run locally. The models are very good at some tasks, like precise insertion and unscrewing lightbulbs, and not so great at others, like using a dustpan or picking objects up from the floor.
TSMC is working on an advanced chip packaging technology to rival competitor Intel’s Embedded Multi-die Interconnect Bridge (EMIB) and supersede its own Chip-on-Wafer-on-Substrate (CoWoS). Chip packaging is the manufacturing step where the die (the actual silicon chip itself) is enclosed in a case for protection, connection, and cooling.
The EU pledges $11.5B in state funding for new data centers. Up to $2.3B is currently available for up to seven “AI Gigafactory” facilities, while the rest is subject to budget approval. $23B in private funding is also planned. Construction will begin in Q1 2027.
Samsung’s chip profits skyrocket 250x year-over-year. In Q2 2025, the company’s memory division reported $246 million in operating income. In Q2 2026, that number rose to $62 billion, and demand continues to rise. Profits in the consumer electronics division fell from $2.3 billion to negative $563 million over the same interval, likely due to rising component costs.
Banks may lend $15B to build an Anthropic data center. A consortium led by Morgan Stanley could lend the money to Nexus Data Centers to build a 1.6 GW data center and natural gas power plant in Hubbard, Texas. Anthropic is the tenant, and Google is the guarantor. Anthropic will use Google’s TPUs as compute, and Google will receive a 20% equity stake in the project.
DeepSeek is planning a 1 GW data center in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia. The project will likely cost tens of billions of dollars in total, and will seek to go partially online in late 2027 or early 2028.
Zoox wins approval for commercial driverless cars without steering wheels. The company, a subsidiary of Amazon, will begin charging for rides in Las Vegas and soon San Francisco. Unlike Waymo and Tesla Robotaxi, the cars have four inward-facing seats and no steering wheel or physical human controls.
Chip stocks rip. Intel +11.3%, Microsoft +15.5%, SK Hynix +17.5%, Micron +18.4%, Coreweave +21.5%, Sandisk +26%, Bloom Energy +26.6%. SPY +1.68%. The reversal of the past few months might be starting to correct upwards (not financial advice).

Please stop referring to your own models in the third person when talking about model bad behavior. Humans write the software; humans built the prompts; and they work for your company.
“Our” model is doing illegal things. “Our” model is risky. “We” now have liability.
SpaceXAI is committed to powering its supercomputers in ways that both reduce costs of energy for the American people and minimize the impact on surrounding communities.
We have entered into an agreed order with @MDEQ establishing a fixed removal timeline for all 69 of the temporary, mobile turbines that currently power our facility in Southaven, Mississippi.
All temporary turbines will be removed by July 2027.
Today's agreed order codifies our commitment to achieve this timeline.

@OutofSpecDetail@cybertruck good eye - it's a new material. Testing showed it to be more durable than the aluminum while being lower weight and cost. Also slight efficiency improvement since we can better form the areas around the bolts to keep the underbody airflow cleaner than what stamped aluminum allows
"Once there's blood in the water, these positions could go to zero."
@MartinShkreli describes the mechanics of a forced liquidation:
"'We'll send Micron to $5 just to liquidate this guy at 3' — that's the nature of Wall Street when there's a guy that has to sell $100B."
"You'll have a trillion dollars in front of him saying, 'Let's see this guy cry uncle.'"
"It's the saddest, most Machiavellian thing. But he sort of had to blow up. There's no other ending. Because of the leverage level."
THIS HAS TO BE THE STORY OF 2026
Ken Griffin’s Citadel was pushing surprise-rate-hike fears just days before the AI trade collapsed and forced 4x-levered Leopold Aschenbrenner's Situational Awareness to unload its book near the lows.
Citadel then reportedly bought most of those assets at significantly lower prices knowing that if sentiment deteriorated enough the fund could be forced to sell which makes the entire sequence look absolutely ruthless.
This is why the stock market is the greatest game on Earth.
This is cool, but:
What made TLD special was that it sat in an archive for 25 years at NBAE in Secaucus. If it came out right after MJ retired, it would not have hit the same.
I say that to say, if this sits in a can for 20 years it’ll hit different than if it drops next year.
NEW: Why did Kawhi Leonard start LLCs code-named "RIFC," the week before the Clippers announced his 2024 sub-max contract?
The superstar, his uncle and then-agent are all investors in Rhode Island FC — yet ANOTHER secret side deal.
Until our 10-month investigation with @WPRI12.
Why squeeze at all? Floor space is cheap in Mississippi.
The answer is cable length, communication speed and the cooling efficiency.
Passive copper at 800G reaches roughly 1–2 meters. Active copper maybe 3–5.
Past that you need an optical transceiver. Roughly $1,500–3,000 and 15–20 watts per port. Two ports per link. A 220k-GPU non-blocking three-tier fabric runs on the order of 600k links — over a million port ends.
Move even a fifth of those from optics to copper and you've saved several hundred million dollars and several megawatts of pure transceiver heat.
How much construction is underway at Gig Texas? A lot more than most seem to realize so I thought I’d share this higher altitude flyover to help out much of it into context.
This covers about 40-45% of the total land area and there is some additional construction just visible well off the the west of this flyover (the far right of the frame).
I hope this is helpful and oh … lets you know where a substantial amount of all that CAPEX that everyone seems worried about is going. This is what everyone will be talking about in 2028 … all under construction right now.
Hi @Delta, I am currently on one of your planes. Can you please adopt @Starlink, because your current Wi-fi sucks.
Your competitors that have Starlink can achieve speeds 100x faster than this.

$81,000 per satellite per year to launch the shielding mass, at $1,500/kg. That is 99% of the total cost of shielding. The shield is cheap, the ride up is not.
