It’s really important to stress that the picture in poorer countries is *completely* different. If anything, I’m even more optimistic about cash transfers there than I was back in 2014.
Just this week, a new GiveDirectly study found that a one-time $1,000 transfer to households in rural Kenya reduced infant mortality by 48% (!!).
That’s one of the most dramatic improvements ever recorded for any global health intervention.
The top 1% now owns more than $54 trillion in wealth.
That’s 468 times more than the bottom 50%.
One man — Elon Musk — owns more than the bottom half COMBINED.
This is what I mean when I talk about oligarchy.
“70% of Americans believe that government is fundamentally corrupt.”
This is fundamentally bad for our democracy—when even the low-hanging fruit seems too high up to pick.
@wd_lindsey breaks it down.

Three years ago, we started something great together.
Three years ago, we all looked at our politics and said, “Enough is enough.”
Three years ago, we launched the Forward Party to give Americans a better choice—one that puts their needs ahead of party politics.
In two weeks, Forward is turning three. We’re throwing a party, and we want you to be there!

It's becoming easier to find a climate denier among climate scientists than a genocide-denier among genocide scholars.

How do we regenerate the Amazon River?
I wrote a chapter about this in my book "The Design Pathway for Regenerating Earth" back in 2020. Now we are deeply organizing with two territories in Colombia -- both of which reside in the sacred headwaters of major rivers that enter the basin.
Through the Northern Andes Regeneration Fund, there are territorial foundations located in the Upper Putumayo and Florencia, Caquetá in Colombia. Each has unique challenges while sharing many features in common For example, both struggle with violence connected with narcotrafficking and both have cattle ranching and the rubber trade as major industries.
They also have deep Indigenous roots going back many thousands of years and are holders of wisdom traditions that are beyond measure in value. As we weave a bioregional funding ecosystem across the seven Colombian territories associated with the Northern Andes Regeneration Fund, we will engage in regenerative work in parallel with both headwater communities.
I can feel the significance of all of this. It is truly profound and fundamental to the regeneration of the Amazon as a whole. Special thanks to TerritoriA for hosting the fund and helping us organize this movement of territorial foundations.
Onward, fellow humans.
